Summary

Top Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson and Rep. Jim Jordan, are backing Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s attacks on U.S. judges who blocked Trump orders and Musk-led federal agency cuts.

A judiciary subcommittee hearing explored curbing “judicial overreach,” while Musk, who donated $300M to Trump, has called for impeaching judges.

Critics warn these moves undermine judicial independence and risk violence. Judges facing threats include James Boasberg, targeted by Trump for halting deportations.

Legal experts and ex-GOP officials say the attacks serve political and fundraising goals, while endangering constitutional norms.

I really hope the only broad draining of red in this country is the loss of Republicans in any position of power.

And if real Americans are lucky to get into power again, we need to take advantage of all these new powers and treat them as such.

  • Investigate and arrest the leaders of the Heritage Foundation for sedition, for openly attempting to convert our republic into a dictatorship in a clear attempt to overthrow and betray the constitution.

  • Withhold federal funding from parasitic, thieving red states.

  • Unilaterally declare tax breaks for churches unconstitutional, and issue them bills and indictments for decades of tax evasion.

  • Suspend security clearances for all GOP-aligned law firms.

  • Ignore court orders from the illegitimate, corrupt supreme court. Instead, investigate them for open and blatant corruption.

  • Kick Fox News out of the press corps and investigate and dismantle them for foreign collaboration with enemy Russian propagandists.

  • Denaturalize Elon Musk for lying on his initial visa application and then arrest and imprison him for stealing taxpayer money and deliberately weakening US defense systems in concert with his Russian and Saudi financial backers.

  • Many many other things we can do to destroy the GOP using the powers they've given to Trump.

Only once the treasonous GOP political apparatus has been utterly destroyed, and its leaders are in prison for life, and measures have been taken to prevent its rise again, should we consider restoring congressional and judicial power.

The only way left to stop this shit now is to use their authoritarian wet dream against them and make it their nightmare.

The Heritage foundation and Crow need to have a serious reckoning.

Honestly guys, they're just scared little babies who really want to do the right thing, but are afwaid of the mean Orange Daddy!

Republicans would prefer to rule over a pile of ashes instead of sharing political power in a thriving country.

I'm not as worried about the violence against judges, which is a horrific development. I'm more worried about the violence that happens when people realize their political views can bring violence against them because of what's being done to judges.

That's going to be the end of peaceful protest, and the start of a LOT of political violence.

Political views have long been met with state sanctioned violence. The concern for me with the breakdown of the judicial system, we're going to see an even wider disparity in equal application of the law, and larger backlogs.

The concern for me is that we're going to stop having protests, and start having explosions of government buildings to send a message.

Looking in front the outside, that sounds like exactly what you need

Not that I'm disagreeing, but I also know where that ends. I should say, the range of endings. Aside from probably neither of us living long enough to see where it ends, the range of endings are almost universally bad for humanity in general, and the US in particular.

Because of course they do

GOP: Because, to hell with laws! Top down, full Authoritarian control! Let’s gooo!

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 8 points 6 hours ago

They've got some wicked "Off with their heads" vibe going there.
