Summary

Donald Trump warned the UK must accept chlorinated US chicken imports if it wants relief from new 10% tariffs on British exports.

The U.K. has long reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high food standards, with polling showing 80% of Britons oppose a ch imports.

Critics argue chlorinated chicken stems from poorer production hygiene, with studies showing high bacteria rates in US chicken.

Farming advocates warn a US trade deal with lower standards would be "devastating for British farming."

May I politely suggest; get fucked

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

Wish I could trust the red Tories to tell him to fuck off.

Moved from US to Canada back in high school long ago..

Holy shit meat quality was NIGHT AND DAY. I'd never go back

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 18 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

As an American, don't accept this chicken. American chicken sucks. It's all fat and hormones with some meat in it and doesn't taste as good.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Plus chlorinated chicken is weak as fuck. I want brominated chicken. Or better yet, fluorinated chicken. Bathe the chickens in one of the cool halogens or don't even bother .

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Nuke it in UV. Get a nice sear going...

[–] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago

It's pretty messed up that these days regular headlines read like The Onion headlines

[–] proto_jefe@lemm.ee 63 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As an American... don't cave. Boycott US products even if your countries give in. Otherwise we'll never learn our lesson.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (3 children)

As a U.S. Citizen, PLEASE don't buy these products. Please don't give in.

It is funny, here in Sweden we have for decades looked down upon other countries in the EU, even our neighboring countries, for their "terrible" livestock practices.

If I see beef from Denmark or Ireland on the shelf, I will not buy it even if there is no alternative, if there is no Swedish beef, I will not buy beef that day.

And now from what I understand, the Drumpfster want us to buy food that is even lower quality?

lol.

Now, when I say that I only buy Swedish meat in the store, and that other nations livestock practices are "terrible", I mean it in that I have been told since I was born that other nations pump their animals full of antibiotics, while Sweden does not, and that other nations are "abusing" their livestock, Sweden does not.

I don't know how true this all is, but it absolutely affects my decisions on what to buy.

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Sweden, number one exporter of beef,

all other countries have inferior beef!

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Goddamnit, you're right, but you know they're feeding that shit to us too

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Gosh, then will pour chlor over my chicken dish myself before serving, like some sort of crime scene cleaner.

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It wont be allowed to be marked as either from the US or chlorinated if it ever does come over. The people paying Trump to push this know that if the UK public can spot it they wont buy it so any deal would mandate that it doesn't have to be stamped.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If you can't spot it by looking at it, you can definitely spot it by eating it. You don't even need to tell people to boycott this stuff, people are able to read brand names and won't rebuy brands that taste rubbish anyway.

[–] CandleTiger@programming.dev 2 points 7 hours ago

If that is true, please explain why all the chicken for sale in my country has gone to shit and good quality meat can’t be found anymore.

Regulations matter. Hold on to them.

[–] NotAnonymousAtAll@feddit.org 5 points 20 hours ago

Simple workaround: Stamp "not chlorinated" on the non-US stuff.

[–] CrateDane@feddit.dk 13 points 21 hours ago

Keep your chicken and choke on it, asshole.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why even import chicken from the US? You can have chicken farms anywhere, right?

Also I dig in and found this article from 2019, so the US always wanted us to buy chlorinated chicken from them... wait a second. 2019, that was the first Trump Tenure. What's with his obsession of exporting chlorinated chicken?

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 18 points 23 hours ago

It goes further back to at least 2014. There was a failed attempt at a free trade agreement between the EU and USA called TTIP and chlorinated chicken was often mentioned in that context.

If Trump is hatching them personally (I can't imagine why else he could be so obsessed with eggs to go around begging for them all over the globe), you need to somewhat clean and disinfect the chickens before sale...

I'm going to show myself out.

[–] riskable@programming.dev 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

There's obviously something fowl going on in the Whitehouse.

[–] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 1 points 16 hours ago

I remember, in 2025, when the former Whitehouse got renamed into the now Honourable Foulhouse.

[–] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

So first he goes around begging for eggs, now he's back peddling disgusting low quality chlorine contaminated chicken. Coincidence?

[–] TheProtagonist@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's the best chlorinated chicken in the world, believe me, so beautiful...

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

A friend of mine worked as a butcher for Stop & Shop for a while. He had so many horrible stories of boot-shaped bruises on the chickens, overly saline-injected breasts gushing puddles on the block, partially cooked chicken from the heat shrink and labeling process, and more I can’t even remember right now. Our food supply chain is vile, and this was back in ~2000.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Id like to know more about the chlorine part. What have I been eating?

[–] riskable@programming.dev 2 points 22 hours ago

"So beautiful. So white and pure."

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 12 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

What if the deal is made and then no one in the UK actually buys it because its shit? Also isn't US food generally expensive compared to ours before sending it across the Atlantic?

[–] Agosagror@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I reckon trump will insist on food labels sinking in quality. I doubt trump would let it be obvious what was american

Although it might be obviously labelled as american and even the far right don't like the idea of American chicken so it might just flop

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 16 hours ago

I just looked at the price of some meats at Walmart. It's expensive compared to Aldi in the UK. Transporting it across the Atlantic isn't going to help bring costs down either.

[–] chramies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can't make people eat it though.

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You can obfuscate it so that people won't even know what they're eating, though... Wouldn't be the first, or the last time... All you need to do is get the meat into the country, then throw it in the shredder and process it until it is unrecognisable.

Edit: or not even that, just slap whatever label you want on it. It's not like the average consumer will do a chem test on every cut of meat they purchase.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

They will do a taste test though, when they eat it. Then they'll swear to never buy that crappy brand again.

And all that's left is to hope that alternatives will still be available.

[–] Schortl@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Mhm - what about no....

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
