[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 126 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Another day, another go fuck yourselves Americans.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 34 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Just the 31% that voted for him.

[–] squishy@lemmy.zip 22 points 4 days ago

Nah, as a fellow American that's not how it works. Their shit is our shit too even if you didn't want the shit. You can definitely say that to other Americans tho.

When you hear anger towards the country, don't take it personally, they have every right to be angry at America and it's not really fair to jump in and say "but not me!". Let them vent, if you need to say something agree with them lol

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What about the 36% that didn’t bother to vote?

[–] oxysis@lemm.ee 28 points 5 days ago (2 children)

The sizable chunk of democrats who aren’t doing fucking anything or don’t care because it doesn’t affect them personally

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Fuck magnets too.

How the fuck do they even work?

[–] oxysis@lemm.ee 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I’m more concerned with how they managed to make rocks thinks than how they made rocks be attracted to one another

They engrave magic glyphs on them bro.

Trans-rocks. When did magnets become woke?!

So, because I voted for Harris, and have been voting against this sort of shit all my life here in Texas, I deserve to burn?

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

I'm going to take a different tact here, just based on interactions with Canadians.

My Canadian friends know that I'm not a Trump supporter. They know that I have wanted to get out of the US for years now, and that I think the US has gone to shit and is now overrun by fascists. But that doesn't mean they can exempt me from the hurt they need to put on the US. That's not how it works. They've got to hit the USA back where it hurts, and that means in the pocketbook. And that means we all are in the brawl. They line up shoulder to shoulder and go elbows up because solidarity is where it's at when your former buddies from across the way punch you in the face unexpectedly. What I don't understand is how Americans could have expected Canadians to just roll over and take it. I mean, the Canadian national sport is Hockey, where going 'elbows up' is something you can expect on a regular basis. And we're now in the virtual equivalent of a Hockey brawl (and can be in a very real one if we dare think we can just invade -- last time we did that, they burned down the White House!).

31% of American voters aren't the only people who need to suffer, either. You're counting the 77m people who voted Trump in that number, and pointing out that 75m voted Harris. Well, what about the 2m who voted third part and the 90m+ people who stayed home? Doncha think those people have some responsibility for Trump? And how exactly are the Canadians and Europeans supposed to know which group you are part of? You say you voted Harris, but you can't prove that (and shouldn't want to with the rise of Fascism). You could be a closet Trump supporter that just SAYS you are a Harris supporter, and nobody would know better.

So, in summary, yes. As a Harris voter, you are gonna have to feel the heat from Canada and Europe and the rest of the civilised world. They can't avoid targeting you when they target the entire USA. You're an American, and right now, they have to worry about their people and not the fraction of the USA that voted to stay sane. The best they can do is try to rescue the 'good' Americans, but right now, even that's a step too far because American economics has infected them to the point that they can't even house their own populace. So, rather than getting mad at Canadians and Europeans, let's get mad at the real perps here, the shitgibbon and his merry band of miscreants and everyone who enabled that bunch of assholes by voting for them, voting third party, or staying home.

It's YOUR country. If you can't fix it, then you're complicit.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Their standpoint is that you allowed it to happen around you due to your inaction.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'll just be a lone gunman running into the whitehouse then. How does that fix anything?

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm just telling you the kind of shit I'm told. Hell, a lot of our peers bash us for voting for Harris because she was pushing Israel, which is such a shit take that I can hardly believe they use it knowing how Trump treats the issue.

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

A lot of people were pushing the meme that Harris was worse somehow than Trump, and that they'd stay home or vote third party because nothing Trump could do would be worse than what Harris and the Democrats were doing RE: Gaza.

Gaza is now being slated for demolition and rebuilding by a shyster and shithead, and Israel is escalating its war, while Ukraine is now left hanging in the breeze. All thanks to those people.

Good job, people. You made it worse.

[–] DoPeopleLookHere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How about you start organizing community?

That's something you can actually do to resist.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Man, I’m on the spectrum. People aren’t my jam. Never have been. I’m not a leader, nobody has ever listened to me. I can’t organize anything, and I’m scared to death to actually meet people. I’m more scared to death that I’ll end up in jail, leaving my disabled wife to fend for herself. It’s hard enough to go to work every day. There’s no energy left.

As a trans, AuDHD, DID system, I'm tired to buddy.

But the only way to not feel like that is community.

It doesn't have to be much. Libraries offer ton of programming for all kinds of folks. Just start showing up unabashedly and if they don't like it, you don't have to stay either.

But the only way to survive is together.

Trump can go fuck himself.

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 65 points 5 days ago (2 children)

France is an interesting choice as the first ones to threaten. They might be the country most willing to tell America to fuck off and spend an evening lighting Teslas on fire.

DEI initiatives don’t really exist there like they do in the United States. Their constitution already bans employers from making distinctions based on race, gender, religion, etc. The closest thing France has that I know of is a requirement for corporate boards to be 40% women. They aren’t going to change that law because Trump threw a hissy fit.

Plus, DEI doesn’t even really mean anything specific in the United States anymore. It’s just a dog whistle (like “woke”) Republicans use to signal that they’re racist and sexist and stir up racial animus. They use it when it doesn’t even make sense. Trump blamed “DEI hires” when an ARMY helicopter crashed into a passenger jet even though all the pilots and the air traffic controllers were white men. He blamed the LA wildfires on DEI.

[–] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 5 days ago (1 children)

DEI is basically the modern n word.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I was going to say, it's not always a derogatory word. Those who are still aligned with DEI don't use it that way. So yeah, I guess it is.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

DEI in the US just means not being a racist, misogynistic, *-phobic piece of shit.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago

It's clear that his ambition is to be the dictator of the world.

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 60 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"Europeans are beholden to US policy."

lol ok.

I've come to learn that when they say "small government" they don't mean that what the government touches is small and focused. They mean that the size is physically small but have the same, if not more, power than a large government body.

Basically they want fascism and a monarchy.

[–] solomon42069@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I found a similar thing with "small business". Right wing neo-liberal conservatives love to go on about small business - but their notion of what that is does is very different from ours.

The right wing idea of a "small business" is 100 employees and a $40 million turn over. They aren't thinking of a general store or a diner that a family has owned for three generations.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When I was a right winger and had some more connections to musicians here in Hungary, some came up with the idea that the government should allocate some funds to pay musicians to use Hungarian made equipment, especially as some popped out in 2010 expecting a "raise in nationalism and love for domestic products", so they don't have to use foreign ones in exchange of endorsement money.

The reception? We got called communists for barring them from buying "quality branded" products from the west, and they told us the horrors of buying Tisza shoes instead of Adidas too...

[–] solomon42069@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

In the late 1990s in Australia we had similar attempts to promote domestic products in the supermarket. As a kid at the time I questioned why we'd buy local when global brands were higher quality and more familiar to me, especially as I've lived in Europe and Asia.

For me personally - part of the issue with nationalism movements promoting domestic production that is that they are often tied with racism/xenophobia and are often used as a ruse by some greedy person to promote their own business to the local market. They get people angry which creates free publicity and unearned brand loyalty.

In Australia, we have a number of very loud and outspoken racist politicians who allegedly believe in this country and want it to do well, but when you look at their actions they're all wining and dining billionaires and only looking to attack Aboriginal or foreign people, not uplift all Australians to a brighter better future.

It sounds to me like the program you were a part of had noble intentions, but without knowing more details I have to assume it could easily have been affected some of the issues I've mentioned.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 4 points 4 days ago

Yeah, the small business is just one guy in an office trying to get government contracts which then get subcontracted to the actual people doing the thing, but for less.

[–] bradv@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

There's no smaller government than a dictatorship

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Small enough to fit snuggly between you and your rights.

[–] StSc0ut@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

Small enough to perhaps fit inside a uterus..?

[–] LovingHippieCat@lemmy.world 50 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That's a good way to have foreign companies that are currently invested in the US to pull all of their investments and fire everyone working for them over here.

Everything he does is just making us more isolated from the world.

Everything he does is just making us more isolated from the world.

That is why tariffs make sense. If you were preparing the US for WW3 then you would do exactly what Trump is doing.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He's stupid enough to believe that autarky is a desirable situation, without actually knowing what the word means.

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

It can be under certain circumstances, its generally desireable for a country to be able to feed itself for example, and being able to produce products yourself is useful when negotiating trade agreements. The problem is when autarky becomes conflated with isolationism.

[–] Zugyuk@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Or else what, he will double tariff them?

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 5 points 4 days ago

Double-secret-tariffs!

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

You better listen otherwise I'll crash my economy!
