The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

This includes some porn subreddits as well as subreddits like /r/Drugs. Apparently due to being "unmoderated", but some were not. What are your thoughts?

Edit: apparently also subreddits like /r/transgender_surgeries are banned too. Definitely feels politically motivated. Edit 2: seems like at least some (?) bans are being undone, like the above mentioned ones.

They were just testing the waters. They're gonna do it again, mmw.

Good, let porn migrate to https://lemmynsfw.com/ - finally more good content on Lemmy

And trans people are always welcome here! Direct them over to Lemmy as much as you can

People are forgetting this all springs from the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025.

THEY are the ones pulling the strings behind Trump. The corporations and billionaires funding that (not Musk) that are shelling out the cash and have been since the Reagan era.

Folks who think that the Pornhub ban in a few states and the ID request in others is the new norm are going to be in for a surprise when a nationwide ban gets passed shortly. That has always been on the agenda for them.

It’s a Christian Extremist agenda (think Handmaids Tale) and all you fuckers who voted for him or didn’t vote in retaliation allowed this shit to happen.

I cannot believe the amount shocked people I’ve ran across at work recently, who are Republicans who are still in denial and still think things are going to get better - or have some sort of bizarre belief that Trump is going to start suddenly making everything cheaper for everyone. Idiots!

Step 1: Ban porn.

Step 2: ???

Step 3: Profit

[–] adm@lemm.ee 10 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I think banning porn is in part about getting birthrates back up. They're scared of replacement. There's the morality crap they're tossing but the driving force is replacement theory and lost profit. They don't want to be like Japan.

[–] joker125@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Partially, probably.

More importantly, it's about absolute control

[–] kava@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

I don't see how banning porn accomplishes this. Women are the gatekeepers who get to decide whether or not a baby gets born and as a population grows wealthier and more educated the women tend to have less kids. Has very little to do with porn which is mostly watched by men.

The solution to not being like Japan is immigration. That's why our population isn't declining every year like Japan. Without current level of immigration, our population would be decreasing every year and we would be like Japan.

[–] lambalicious@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 6 hours ago

Not under Republican rule they don't!

[–] adm@lemm.ee 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I agree with you. This administration does not. I mentioned replacement theory in my comment. Thats why imigration wouldn't work. They dont see it as an option. They also are working on a national ban on abortion. Ultimately they see us all as cattle, but to get the population up? Women would be more so. Think legislation that makes divorce almost impossible. Tax breaks for 'traditional' families. (especially those that have multiple kids). MAJOR propaganda to push people to have children. Imagine that upcoming Facebook AI army all telling you how great being a parent is. Deeper discrimination in the workforce.

As for banning porn, it makes people more horny. More than that banning, porn also could ban many sexual education resources available online. Maybe the regulate birth control OR make it only accessible through insurance. Nasty work. Hundreds of dollars for your birth control that you need to regulate your periods because you don't have insurance.

Rather than finding porn horny people go out and try to have sex. More sex means more kids. Add to that the removal of those educational resources I mentioned and now you have teens who don't know any better having sex and getting pregnant. Funny how Trump is about to attack the department of education. What kids would have learned in school is lost to budget cuts and just over welmed and new biased teachers. Oh and rest assured their will be new teachers. Passionate volunteers I'm sure, to help teach your kids to be little monsters for God.

All this starts with heavier regulation on porn. It might not be a full ban, but it could be an effective ban. You wouldn't be able to search it, many sights wouldn't host it, and accessing it would require ID (and probably payment ti help support the infrastructure that would require).

When Trump won they realized they could use him. They spent the last 4 years pecking at his brain and writing up their dream bills for him to sign. There's no way Trump is the instigator of the vast majority of what he's signing.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

They killed Roe v Wade already.

Reddit sadly houses a lot of information and is found anywhere else on the internet. Even here on lemmy, we have hardly added a fraction of the information still house on Reddit.

Isn't NSFW stuff a big part of all reddit OC content and the reason many still have an account there?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 47 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

They can't run ads on the subs though so they can't use it to monetize. Big reason they got so pissed off at mods changing subs to nsfw

And reddit these days only cares about PR so can also be a time bomb. Only surprised they haven't nuked everything NSFW

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 36 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Hard to believe but still true: Some time ago even Onlyfans, which was originally intended as a platform for fitness videos and the like, tried to ban NSFW content for exactly the same reason - to the surprise of absolutely noone it wasn't a very successful endeavor and was quickly withdrawn.

during the reddit blackout i tried tracking the general activity on reddit and the posts per day dropped by ~10% during that time while the comments per day dropped by ~20%.

When i looked where most posts and comments came from most of it was on porn and hookup communities. Lots of it was also obiously botted.

Always knew that porn on reddit was a big thing but i never realized the scope.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 20 hours ago

I know it's the only reason I ever end up there these days.

My thoughts? Stupid that they had not left yet.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 64 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (4 children)

you're not wrong but Lemmy just doesn't have the pop to get over the early adopters curve yet. This could very well do it though with how much people love their porn.

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 51 points 21 hours ago (31 children)

I think the main barrier to entry for Lemmy is having to pick an instance. For a lot of people that is confusing and they've never had to do it before. There are definitely people who would give up because they don't understand what to do.

I have absolutely no idea what these companies are doing.

Are they afraid of Trump? Are they afraid of Musk? Are they afraid of the combination of both?

Idk, I thought two incompetent idiots like them would be no threat to the corpos of America, even in the oval office. But maybe I overestimated the corpos.

Or are they jumping on the band wagon voluntarily? It's so weird to me...

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 57 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Looks like new corporate virtue signalling to me.

[–] Norin@lemmy.world 41 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

That’s exactly what it is.

They see more dollar signs from fascism than they do from pretending to care about, well, anything.

My wife works in medical research for a company you've probably heard of. Talking about diversity is a big part of her job, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's scientifically necessary. If they don't have a diverse population on a study, the data will be skewed.

She's no longer allowed to talk about diversity. She's not even allowed to say the word. She had to remove slides from a presentation she was giving.

In fascism, the state and business essentially become one entity. These corporations just see the writing on the wall, and I'm sure many of them are doing it purely out of self-preservation.

Others probably have some romantic view of industry in Nazi Germany, and think they can glom onto the fascists and become the next Hugo Boss or Volkswagon.

People thought this was a slow ban rollout. Looks like now they are ripping off the bandaid.

First they came for porn - I didn't care, because I had a couch, then they came for trans stuff - I didn't care, because I had a couch, then they came for drugs - I didn't care, because I had a couch, then my couch broke from active couchfucking and there were nobody to help me fix it.

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 22 points 17 hours ago

Kinda feels like a warning tbh. Or they're trying to be another tumblr.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 101 points 22 hours ago (11 children)

Looks like reddit is using the momentum of starting sub bans as an opportunity to ban things that might land them in hot water legally or politically

  • Rule34, and anime porn is banned because r34 is based on existing copyrighted material (and so are the anime subs probably)
  • Drugs because of the "war of drugs".
  • transgender_surgeries because the current US administration is profoundly transphobic.

I assume they will most likely not come over here because there are users like this mod:

[–] popjam@lemmy.world 49 points 22 hours ago (5 children)

I got banned for 7 days for posting a Luigi cap
