Rewilding is the solution!

Also elephants. I want to release elephants and see what problems that solves.

What if they have too many wolves? What you gonna do?

[โ€“] blibla@slrpnk.net 23 points 2 days ago

too many wolves -> not enough food -> not too many wolves anymore

[โ€“] Acters@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

More wolves?

[โ€“] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

Wolves are territorial and will kill one another if their population gets too high.

Whoever wrote that obviously never lived in an area with deer hunters.

[โ€“] blibla@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

hunting is only necessary in areas where wolves have been hunted to extinction

[โ€“] Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago

Wolves don't indiscriminate between invasive and endangered species though.

Maybe we should rethink if wolves are the best choice for the job then, eh?

You mean the guys feeding the deer, so there are more of them and easier to hunt?

[โ€“] Telorand@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, because there's areas where deer are so prolific that they're considered pests. I knew many hunters in one such area, and nobody fed the deer, because it would have been costly and pointless.

There are so many deer in my neighborhood that you can't grow anything at ground level. They eat it all. Even decorative plants. It might be hard to believe but I'm five minutes by car from the downtown of my small city.

I think the most I've counted traveling as a group was 17.

There are a lot of hunters here. To the point where any adult male that doesn't hunt is seen as weird by a good portion of the population.

Just so long as you don't live in a right to Wolf state.
