Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

good thing he's, by law, above the law

Right, who's going to hold a cabal of the richest men on Earth accountable?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago

Pennsylvania alone would not have flipped it.

312 to 226.

Flip Pennsylvania:

293 to 245.

Still 25 short of a win. PA+MI+WI were required and she blew all three, just like Clinton did.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 day ago

Therefore it would be technically impossible to hack voting machines since the paper trail would not match up. Wishful thinking though."

Yeah if you ask for a recount. The one the DNC never bothered with.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty sure nothing can or will be done about it.

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

In this case, unfortunately, the past is indeed indicative of the future. Oh and by the way, fuck you Merrick Garland you useless quisling and coward.

"He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers, those vote-counting computers, and we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide.

Except that Elon actually doesn't know shit about computers. Trump is just rambling delusionally like usual.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I wish people would stop conceding even that about Elon. The guy is not some technical whiz at anything that I can discern.

Does he even have a real degree?

Virtually all of the self-created myth about Elon seems to be complete bullshit.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

He’s been massively inconsistent about the year, some weird story about grad school requirements.

His “woke mind virus traceroute” post just does not seem like the kind of thing anyone who has ever used any form of command line would actually write. The way he talks about physics and rocketry, as someone who has taught physics and also been blessed to actually talk to some of the smartest NASA scientists in the world, does not sound like the way that people talk about physics and rocketry.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Elon musk is great at buying companies that could be promising and getting them to massively grow. It's likely mostly about being able to secure funding, but it's something I guess.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Elon dazzels Trump with tales of setting the correct time on all sorts of video players.

The one thing I know in my heart and in my soul is these guys will fuck something up so badly that their own base will demand they be torn to shreds before these 4 years are up.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (6 children)

As he said, many years ago now, "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"

These people do not care about rules, they do not care about law, they do not care what is good for them and those they care about. They care about owning the dems.

As we've seen again and again, this is very unlikely.

[–] whyalone@lemm.ee 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The base will never turn against trump, never

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Whatever Trump fucks up, they'll just blame it on democrats

It doesn't fucking matter. He can splatter an infant against a tree like an old testament god and nothing will ever happen then either.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (4 children)

None of this defeatist bullshit. It matters.

https://lemmy.world/c/keeptrack

Keep track. Or don't keep track and keep it out of your head for your health.

Just no defeatist bullshit.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh come on... Maybe in 2020 you could get away with this blind positivity but at this point you're just denying reality.

Keep track has existed pretty much since Trump first showed up, "we've" accomplished fuck-all. We did however elect a feckless piece of shit who picked another feckless piece of shit to run the DOJ and together they also accomplished fuck-all.

Trump is going to get away with literally everything, as he already has, save for some state level civil b.s he can't use the DOJ to make go away.

Defeatist or blind positivity, none of it matters. We have no control. You can, as I have, and many others, shout from the rooftops of all the shit we've kept track of, but as long as fox news exists, as long as Elon keeps buying social media to control, we will have next to 0 impact getting people to realize.

Honestly keeping with what I've just said, even this means nothing and has no real purpose. I think "keep track" just triggered me. It's all useless.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

I wish I could tune out. My mental health is already shite, but I am terrified. My state already had a law that just passed defining sex, with this new EO I’m terrified they’re coming after my drivers license. I’m terrified that they’re going to institutionalize and detransition me.

I don’t know how to balance staying aware enough to keep my self safe without being terrified and exhausted into paralysis.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Maybe it's worth keeping track of so when the dust all settles and it's all over, someone has a real-time record of it.

I basically agree with everything else you said though.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Thanks for pointing out that community, because I've been trying to figure out how to get some kind of news feed that only covers the important things that we actually need to know about, without having to subject myself to the firehose of irrelevant bullshit that the media breathlessly covers as if it was just as important as news about stuff that is actually happening and getting buried in all that distracting trash.

Keeptrack seems like it should work for me for this purpose. It looks like posts there will be just the actual actions taken by our new overlords that impact us, without all the crap that's just bluster for drama and stoking the base.

Sorry, we can't prosecute a sitting president. It's tradition.

He can confess to multiple murders and show the bodies on stage and nothing will happen. The US "justice" system only applies to poor people.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And Democrats. You're going to see the DOJ move at light speed now. Moved at glacial pace with the previous administration but now that vindictive retaliation is on the menu they're going to give Sonic a run for his money.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

Maybe, or maybe we'll get a lot of firey talk, sternly worded letters, terse lunches, and frustrated phone calls from both sides.

And then they'll all meet on the green at 2pm and have a leisurely game of golf before going home to their mansions in their gated communities.

And the media will jingle the next shiny thing for us to look at.

Here we go again. Even when he's literally found guilty, it makes no difference because there's just not the will to make it stick.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 70 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Get the message: the system will not save us from Trump.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 54 points 1 day ago

We need a Luigi.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ding ding ding. Constitution? Basically a system. Justice department? A system. They have failed. We keep pretending like a super hero is gonna show up, correct it all then vanish again for another 50 years.

"He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers, those vote-counting computers, and we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide."

Trump is so old he probably means human computers. They were still around when he was a young man. Right? He meant the people counting the votes, right? Heaven forbid he actually tried to monkey with the voting machines. Because that would be illegal, and totally unthinkable for someone with a stainless reputation like His Orangeness...

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Don't assume there's anything meaningful behind what he says. His algorithm is mind-numbingly simple: say stupid shit. If it gets attention, double down.

That's all there is. There is no thought and no feeling. He has no more inner life than a cockroach.

Some people may think that, but from the video it is not clear. He just mentions Elon knows computers very well. There will be enough real news with president Trump, we don’t need this kind of journalism.
