During his “Face the Nation” appearance, Kelly said that when it comes to TikTok, he is worried about “their ability to manipulate … the population of the United States, especially in time of a conflict.”

Okay, then let's talk about the shithole formerly known as Twitter then too as well as Facebook and other social media platforms.

The correct response to a foreign power harvesting our data and influencing our politics isn’t to stop just them, it’s to regulate social media so nobody can do it.

But we’re America so we’re gonna be dumb and xenophobic.

But Twitter is ok because “free speech.” / s

TikTok is the one they can't control, and for some crazy ass reason it's the only one that actually removes racist and bigoted content. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, none of them removes explicit hate speech anymore

All the American equivalents are basically 4chan these days, and they're pissed people have an alternative.

Like, people say they're worried about China/Russia stoking infighting...

But they ignore American billionaires have been doing it for decades. They want a race war, culture war, any and every kind of war to distract the poors from realizing there's an ongoing class war and we're getting our asses kicked.

They're not worried about Americans being manipulated.

They're worried about China/Russia allowing the working class to unite against the wealthy. They're doing it for the wrong reasons, but at this point all they have to do is be non biased and allow it to grow. They don't have to encourage it.

That's why the wealthy and powerful are so scared of a shitty video app.

It ain't to protect us.

Pretty sure Meta and X and out of control at this point too...,

The working class of… China and Russia?

You’re certainly not suggesting that China and Russia give any kind of shit about the working class with their oligarchs and billionaires?

The working class of… China and Russia?

Oh hell no...

You’re certainly not suggesting that China and Russia give any kind of shit about the working class with their oligarchs and billionaires?

They don't.

They won't the working class of other countries to revolt against their own oligarchs, leaving Russian and Chinese oligarchs higher on the list of worlds wealthiest people.

They're doing the right thing, for the wrong reasons.

Which is only a good thing compared to American oligarchs doing the wrong thing.

Something being the lesser of two evils doesn't make it good, but just like I voted for Hillary, Joe, and Kamala...

I guess I'm now a TickTok supporter too.

TikTok removes pro gay and pro trans content too, so… you can be against the US republicans and yet another evil corporation.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's wild, I guess all those posts on my FYP with the trans flag aren't real?

[–] galaskorz@discuss.online 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Are you saying TikTok has never been accused of removing lgbt content? Because a basic web search can disprove that.

Why are you a corporate shill?

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Accused? Sure. But there's quite a bit of LGBTQ content on there so the accusations ring a bit hollow.

[–] galaskorz@discuss.online 0 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, this is one of those China is perfect ML things 🤡

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That's one hell of a jump.

[–] galaskorz@discuss.online 0 points 13 hours ago

Nah, it was easy.

[–] holo@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, no it doesn't. Tiktok has a bigger lgbtq+ creator presence than YouTube or Facebook.

[–] galaskorz@discuss.online 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is just one of the first search results

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-54102575

All major social media companies are guilty of stuff like this in some way though.

[–] holo@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

As someone that actively uses Tiktok, no, no it doesn't remove lgbtq+ content for being lgbtq+. I have no doubts some creators screech about censorship because their nearly nude thirst traps got deleted; but pride is covered every year and at least a few thousand trans creators exclusively owe their treatment payments due to Tiktok giving them a platform and actively boosting them.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

you can be against the US republicans and yet another evil corporation.

Yeah, I know...

just like I voted for Hillary, Joe, and Kamala…

Is TikTok perfect?

Obviously not.

But look at comments on Instagram these days on any post having anything to do with a minority, and the comments all just "jokes" with blatant hate speech.

That's Tom Segora, he's kind of a dick and he's friends with Joe Rogan. Which is the point.

Even people that lean right think it's gone to far, and it's going to keep getting worse.

People don't want unmoderated social media, and as bad as TikTok is, right now it's the best moderated "big" social media. It's just a very low bar, and it makes zero sense to start with them.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

They'll just buy the same data from the 50 other apps that collect the same shit. This is the worst way to address this issue. But these politicians are bought and paid for

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 3 points 1 day ago

Damn, I guess I'll just have to download Redbook then
