A Federal Emergency Management Agency worker has been fired after she directed workers helping hurricane survivors not to go to homes with yard signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump, the agency’s leader said in a statement Saturday.

“This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation,” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said. “This was reprehensible.”

The agency did not identify the employee, nor did it say where it happened.

But Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling it “targeted discrimination” of Florida residents who support Trump, said it happened in Florida.

If there were death threats against people working for me, I'd tell them to avoid those people, too. It's not discrimination. It's a safety issue. A lot of them were threatening to shoot FEMA workers if they violated their property.

Not that I agree with this but on some level it could be construed as self-preservation after the hunting parties in western NC

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 63 points 3 days ago

"Don't go where they're likely to shoot you" could so easily be construed as "Don't go where there's Trump signs."

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 31 points 3 days ago

That's exactly what I was thinking.

[–] _lilith@lemmy.world 81 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How much do you want to bet it was just a guy saying "Hey be careful with trumpers because they like to shoot at us." political discrimination my ass. Wolves whining because a sheep won't jump into their teeth.

Don't forget, only a few weeks ago we had "Armed Militia 'Hunting FEMA' Causes Hurricane Responders to Evacuate".

FEMA has also been accused by former president Donald Trump and other Republicans of not being able to respond well enough to Helene because it had diverted disaster relief funds to help migrants. That is not true

This wouldn't help FEMA workers feel safe.

These professional perpetual victims get a whiff of any actual perceived slight against them and they just cum in their little pants don't they?

In reality, if anything, someone probably said "We know the trump supporters have been threatening FEMA workers, if you don't feel safe about the houses with trump signs, you don't need to put yourself in what you feel is a dangerous position. You can skip those homes and we'll help those people when/if they file with the office"

No surprise the root of this comes from modern christianity. In their mind anything they can call persecution adds credit (increased self-righteous bs) to their own dogma. Of course when they do it to other people they are saving them from hell so just about anything goes.

I wish I could be outraged. I really do.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What they did was so fucking wrong and so fucking understandable.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

I mean, I wouldn’t want to get attacked by a conspiracy theorist (that sounds wrong) either.

[–] Random123@fedia.io 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

While this type of behavior is pathetic. Any news article that cannot even mention the county of where this happened is likely propaganda.

So take it with a grain of salt

Yeah im not trusting desantis who has a track record of spreading lies and misinformation. Obviously hes going to say florida because thats where the “source” is coming from and not to mention he is gov of Florida

Hes not going to specify what county because thats when things can really be confirmed.

The Daily Wire first reported on the incident, citing internal correspondence between the employee and workers canvassing homes in Lake Placid, Florida, in which the employee instructed them to “avoid homes advertising Trump.” Source

The fact is that he said he doesn’t know about Project 2025 at that debate.

Lying liar lies again.

no, you must prioritize rescuing people defunding the rescuers. this is important.

desantis can fuck right off though. wasn't he one of the ones pushing for defunding fema?

[–] solomon42069@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is exactly the kind of shit we must not stoop to. Let the Trumpers feed themselves to the leopards. They don't need our help destroying themselves, they're perfectly good at doing that themselves.

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

To stoop to their level id need a shovel.

The general discussion was to avoid them after Trump supporters went around threatening FEMA.

First rule of first response- look after yourself.

[–] Pistcow@lemm.ee 8 points 3 days ago

Oh no, stop, please.
