(psst... Biden dropped out months ago)

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 50 points 1 week ago

Promise I won't be voting for him.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 77 points 1 week ago (3 children)

He obviously isn't driving it...

He's riding around in the passenger seat yelling at reporters

[–] LaserTurboShark69@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] foggy@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's not allowed to. Pretty sure no ex presidents are allowed to.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

New York would have been cabs, and being from a wealthy family he probably got a chauffeur or driving service pretty early on. It's fairly likely he either never knew how to drive or has long since forgotten.

He does however, know how to drive a golf cart.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

As many New Yorkers will remember, he always rode around in a stretch limo. He wouldn’t be dead riding in a cab.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Which raises this concern: Who was driving?

I would think that USSS would need to be driving that truck in order to fulfill their responsibility to protect a former president. But does this mean that Trump is able to pull whatever campaign stunts he wants and receive government subsidized Secret Service protection for all of it, or does he have to reimburse for security at some point?

[–] JWBananas@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

They let Jerry Seinfeld drive Obama around the White House while he was in office. Wouldn't let them exit to the public road though.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Has anyone asked Dukakis who was driving the tank?

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

He probably is charging the secret service for use of that truck.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There is video of him almost falling over because he missed the door handle of the truck. If he cant coordinate his body well enough to open a door, then he certainly cant drive.

[–] RedSeries@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's hanging out in the passenger side of his best friend's ride, trying to holler at me?

[–] Wav_function@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, I don't want you number

[–] RedSeries@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, I'm not gonna give you mine

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

I don't want no dope. A dope is a guy that won't get no vote from me.

With all due respect to The Independent, it's only a "total fail" if it costs him votes. And Trump voters don't read The Independent. Trump voters think they owned the libs with that one.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

According to r/conservative Biden called Trump's supporters garbage, so Trump dressed as a garbage man to show solidarity and support for his supporters. Ro ahow he's with them.

Which makes sense.

But to those who only get the left media it went like this: Comedian called Puerto Rico a floating pile of garbage - so Trump dressed as a garbage man.

That doesn't make sense.

So there's a reason Trump is currently ahead on the average of the polls. Because what he does, works... Which is incredibly good news for Republicans, and bad news for anyone else.

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dislike this, but that doesn't mean you're wrong

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I dislike it too, greatly. I just wrote more about it here... And it's upset me to be realizing this so late in the game, when there's so little chance of changing anything.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

https://lemmy.ca/comment/12512545

I touched on it in my comment, it is definitely an attention grabber, and for Trump any coverage is good coverage. It's still difficult for me to see how Puerto Ricans are supposed to believe Trump saying "I love Puerto Rico I'll take care of Puerto Rico, I've never even heard of this comedian who led my set", while sitting in shotgun of a garbage truck...

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He doesn't gain much from pandering to his own supporters. There are still some people that are on the fence, not many, but a few. People that do believe in regulation cutting but also think the President should be a role model. This will probably tip a very small number of them, which matters in a close race.

[–] dragontamer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

American voting game is one of turnout.

For Republicans, they are in the minority. But their will to vote is much higher. Pandering to his own supporters encourages the get out the vote effort in ways that Democrats are simply unable to do.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Trump voters just need to be told they owned the libs to think they owned the libs. Their entire worldview is actively created on a daily basis by their political idols, and the media puppets that represent them.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If there are any R voters left in the Trump camp who have the capacity to be disgusted, this might push more of them to vote Harris/Walz

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To be fair, if they ended up too disgusted with Trump, they are much more likely to not vote at all than they are to vote for Harris.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It’s better than nothing, I suppose.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My local news presented it entirely as a "Biden said garbage", and then played short clip of Harris disowning Biden.

I live in a blue state.

[–] style99@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

That is funny.

Sadly the media has never been liberal. Or not much of it. (As it is not really a thing.)

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fun fact: After you have been elected as President of the United States you are no longer allowed to drive any motor vehicle besides on private property for the rest of your life. This became heavily enforced after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963.

I guess my point is this was bullshit from the start.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Have I not seen picture of the Obamas cruising around after his terms? This one's a new one for me and is a fun fact.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

There was actually one time when Obama decided "fuck it" and start driving around the white house, like not even anything crazy and just driving around on the driveway, and the secret service rushed to close the gates so he couldn't get out. He said "That was my big joy ride. Three times around the South Lawn driveway. It was wild." If you've ever seen the Obamas driving around, I bet you he was not the one driving.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That was during in his "Comedians in cars drinking coffee" episode with Seinfeld and it was cleared in advance with the Secret Service. They also had to eat in the WH cantina.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Never seen the show, but that definitely makes sense. I heard he was on the show and always wondered what the logistics of it were.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I do think that what I remember seeing.

[–] chakan2@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (3 children)

What Trump does at this point doesn't matter. His cult is way too far up his anus to care. I think he could literally walk out in drag, shoot someone point blank, holding Ivanka's sonogram of her abortion, and wrap himself in a Russian flag and his supporters would come up with a story about how it's the most American thing ever.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

I mean, this happened. It was Rudy in drag, though.

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/rudy-giuliani-donald-trump-drag-video-republicans-b2323973.html

With all the panic over drag we've been going through, it mystifies me that both Trump and Giuliani are still relevant to those people.

[–] BlackPenguins@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Anus is way too sophisticated a word for them.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 1 week ago

I mean, the only way to make that description more American, Russian flag non withstanding, is to replace the walking with driving a pickup to the scene

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Trump in a garbage truck? Right where he belongs, well almost. He should be in the back. How did his handlers miss the symbolism here?

[–] Nytixus@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

His voterbase are the ones in the back.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The symbolism is intentional. I explain in this other comment.

I definitely thought it was weird that a lot of people were specifically blaming the comedian for the PR jokes. Like, yes, the jokes came out of his mouth, but they were laser targeted at his audience.

Glad to see Trump once again clearing up the confusion about who's the main villain.

[–] ChowJeeBai@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

For a guy who's in real estate, he sure allows a lot of people to stay rent-free in his head. Kamala, Barack, Nancy, Joe, Jimmy, Stephen, ... no wonder his businesses go bankrupt so often.

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago

Get in loser, we are going losing.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 12 points 1 week ago

“I don’t know anything about the comedian,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t know who he is. I’ve never seen him. I heard he made a statement, but it was a statement that he made. He’s a comedian, what can I tell you. I know nothing about him.”

I think he may actually be doing his best to tell the truth here and is simply that far gone.

Also summary of campaign.

[–] PedroMaldonado@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago
