Donald Trump said in an interview released on Sunday that he did not think he would run for president again in 2028 if he loses this year’s race for the White House.

In an interview on the Full Measure television show with Sharyl Attkisson, the former US president – who ran in 2016 and 2020 – was asked whether he saw himself running yet again in four years time.

“No, I don’t,” Trump answered. “I don’t see that at all.”

He said: “Hopefully, we’re going to be successful.”

He said that about 2024 in 2020, but here he is. Did he forget because of dementia or is he just a liar?

It is an abuser tactic, silent treatment or withholding affection if he doesn't get what he wants. I guess that might work on his cult even if it has the opposite effect on people with multiple brain cells.

If he is alive in 2028 he will run again. Hopefully he is in prison by then.

What's interesting to me is that he seemed to acknowledge the possibility of failing at all. And that he didn't organize the answer around "if the election is stolen" or something. This is unlike him.

This answer was almost human.

The words coming out of his mouth aren’t even worth the paper they’re printed on

[–] x00za@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 hours ago

Datacenters that process news about Trump have a higher failure rate.

(You can't deny the facts I make up)

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What if they were on toilet paper? I think there’s value there…

[–] bibbs@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

at least i can wipe my ass with toilet paper

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Yea but if someone writes on toilet paper it is probably gonna be ripped. So at that point it is worthless unless you like shit on your fingers.

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 47 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

He also said he’d “disappear” if he lost the 2020 election. At this rate the only way we will stop hearing about him is when he dies, and yet Im sure once we are rid of his existence, the deranged cultists will continue to believe he still stalks the earthly realm.

You know someone already has a AI trained on all his speeches and body language. There will be so many deep fans out there after his death it'll be like all the Binladen videos that were found of him before seal team 6 found him.

I imagine the SI videos will all have a simple background of an obvious bathroom wall, where you can tell he's on the shitter, all the low flow toilet talk will set the location. A bucket KCF next to him with a diet Coke he will do all his greatest hits, the wall, hillary, biden, his dick, how smart he is bc his uncle was a Professor at MIT, he is treated unfairly, ect, ect.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 19 points 7 hours ago

He'd be 82, and the implication is that the country would have just had 4 years of a relatively young, female President.

He doesn't sound like a viable candidate at all in that scenario. (Not that he's a viable candidate now and they still ran him, so I guess all bets are off anyway)

My evaluation is that Trump will be less capable of doing the work of campaigning and people will be less interested.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

i mean, hows he gonna run from jail? Or the grave more likely

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 12 points 8 hours ago

That's what he said last time. Only two things will actually stop him: the death of the Republican Party or his own

[–] recapitated@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

He would run now but not later? This man has no resolve!

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Challenge accepted

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 70 points 12 hours ago (4 children)

I'm just surprised that he admitted to possibly losing

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 hours ago

He didn't really though. The headline makes it sound like Trump said "I won't run again if I lose." But that's not the case. The exchange was actually:

Interviewer: If you're not successful this time, do you see yourself running again in four years?

Trump: No I don't. I think that will be... uhh... that will be it. I don't see that at all. Hopefully we're going to be successful.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 18 points 9 hours ago

Last time he said he'd leave the country and we'd never hear from him again if he lost.

Yet here we are.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

…. losing again

[–] TheProtagonist@lemmy.world 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I thought the election is “stolen” if he should lose.

[–] splount@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago

Let's leave that up to the states.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 70 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Hopefully he won't be alive by then.

Otherwise, I'd trust him keeping his word on this as much as I'd trust him in general: not at all

[–] Silentiea@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (6 children)

Come on, name one time he's ever lied before. You can't even name two. There's not even a dozen times. Certainly it's less than a hundred? A thousand?

ETA: Wikipedia says it's nearly 31000 just while he was president, if you count false or misleading, still more than 5000/2.5 yr if you only count outright falsehoods.

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago

You can't name just one time he lied because if you refer to any specific statement he's made, it contains at least two lies.

It'll be difficult to run for president inside a cell.

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Eugene V. Debs did it, but he was a man of considerably greater conviction than Trump.

Somehow my response wound up as a Direct comment.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 11 points 11 hours ago

Difficult but not illegal or impossible.

And that's assuming that he'll ever see consequences anywhere near that magnitude for his many crimes. Which is unlikely.

Considering his mental decline in the last four years, in 2028, he will only be able to get on a stage and shit himself. And people will still vote for him.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 6 points 9 hours ago

He can do that today, and it would be the most pleasant thing to ever come out of him on stage.

[–] HWK_290@lemmy.world 13 points 13 hours ago

Considering his mental decline in the last four years, in ~~2028~~ 2024, he will only be able to get on a stage and shit himself. And people will still vote for him.

Trump says a lot of things.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 39 points 15 hours ago
[–] Bleys@lemmy.world 137 points 17 hours ago (11 children)

Well he definitely said that in 2020, and if someone had had the foresight to ask him in 2016 he probably would have said it then as well, so I’m going to go ahead and be a little skeptical here.

So he's signaling his potential supporters "it's now or never"... again.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 93 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

He also said he wouldn’t run again if he lost to Biden 4 years ago. Why does anyone believe a single word that comes out of his shithole of a mouth?
