She was ranked the most politically left compared with the rest of the senate freshmen in 2018. Bernie was the second most politically left of all the senators in the same session.
I know there's another site that shows how they voted on everything but I haven't found it yet.
It's also worth noting that she served less than one term, so her sample size is incredibly small compared to most Senators, but I honestly couldn't give a shit. She's not a facist and she's not sundowning, so whatever, fucking run her. Whatever gives the Democrats a shot at limping over the finish line is fine.
Someone just quick copy paste the back half of this comment onto all campaign materials and let's save all these donations for a killer inaugural.
Harris 2024!
Are you thinking of ontheissues?
I liked her before but looking into a lot of these makes me excited for what she might be able to do
Her nomination speech just got posted all over youtube. Feels good, yo.
Why oh why is this a FOX link...
It's a local affiliate. It's better than the national guys.
I read her Wikipedia page and came away with a more positive view of her than I went in with. That's a start at least.
Yes. Hot damn. Thank you!
I will vote for whoever fights against Trump but, my god, this site is starting to feel like a propaganda mill.
What you are seeing is genuine enthusiasm and momentum. I know it's been a while since this has happened, but it's legit.
Some people mistake passion for anger. They see a representation of what they are most familiar with, in context with what they most expect given their environment.
Unfortunately, you're going to see a lot of sentiment just like this: Excited people happy to have something positive to aim for, and those who see that excitement in context of political posting and one-sided arguments.
I think there's at least some sincere grass roots effort to overcome the feared challenges of a last minute campaign.
It's not just Lemmy; I'm seeing the same kind of posts and comments on Imgur. I'm sure reddit is the same but I'm not about to go back there to check. So while it is in fact propaganda, it's also a sign that the majority of Americans using these platforms support Harris. Don't know about Facebook cause I don't use it either, but it's probably more of a mixed bag of Harris and Trump supporters like I'm seeing on YouTube.
I felt completely horrible after the debate, I can accept Biden was sick, jet laged, on nyquil, just woke up from a nap, and heavily distracted because he couldn't stop thinking about his cat Reggie. But that was beyond acceptable, it's REALLY frustrating to have three elections in a row. THREE. Where both candidates, no matter who wins, would be the oldest president we've ever had on record. So yeah. I'm excited to vote for someone that doesn't have future shock when they see a Super Nintendo.
I'm out of the loop on the coconut thing. What's that all about?
A quote from a speech she made.
Aside from the reference calling someone a coconut is a great way to get them offside if they've got brown skin, so I wouldn't recommend going around saying that title in real life...
Oh yeah, it's not supposed to be a title, it's an idea
"My mother ... would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, 'I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?' " Harris said with a laugh. "You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you."
The whole point is believing people aren't coconuts and that they're way more complicated than that
I agree, I just thought it worth mentioning that telling people 'don't be be a coconut' has the potential to backfire if you want them to be agreeable to whatever you say next.
Anybody who still refuses to vote is just looking for excuses to maintain a lazy nihilistic attitude.
At this point, anyone who can vote but won't - "dOn'T cArE! bOtH pArTiEs ArE tHe SaMe!" - is just an imbecile throwing an infantile tantrum. Then there's also always right-wing divide-and-conquer shitheads clumsily shifting gears.
Can anyone less lazy than me fact check this?
I'd vote for a rock over a convicted felon, but it would be cool to have a reason to be pro-Harris.
In 2016, I heard something about Harris that has stuck with me and which speaks to what kind of person she is. She married her husband Doug Emhoff in 2014. At that time, Doug had two teenage kids already, a son and daughter. They apparently love Kamala, and call her Momala.
Anyone who's on loving terms with their teenage step kids must be pretty decent, in my book.
It takes a lot of effort to get there.
