The last one could just have just been review bombed because it was “woke” for casting a person of colour as the lead, or a woman.

Third one can be the opposite. Reviewers rating it on how unwoke(?) the movie is.

RedLetterMedia had a great bit on this.

Yeah, in fact I think that's a majority of those cases. Vocal minority of reactionaries and/or fans disappointed that their expectations weren't met despite the product on its own being good

I can find things I enjoy in just about any movie.
I've loved movies in every one of those categories.

And I never keep it a secret. I don't do Guilty Pleasure.
If I feel guilty, its no longer pleasurable.

Excellent and correct sentiment. I'd also never try and shame someone for the movies they love, there's nothing wrong with enjoying things.

Maybe not undeniable garbage, but I love Event Horizon and was shocked that people in general didn’t. But yes, I am fully aware that some moments in that movie is very much questionable.

This is one of my favorite movies. The first time i saw it, I was out camping with my friend's family and his dad decided that he wanted to see a movie, so we drove an hour into town. Friend's dad wanted to watch like Copland or something, and we asked if we could go watch Event Horizon instead. All of us thought it was just a sci-fi movie, so friend's dad bought us tickets. My friend was covering his eyes or plugging his ears for a lot of that movie, but that is when I realized I love Sam Neill movies. Back at camp was a little rough for both of us though. Neither of us slept much

Chart is missing a category for when the reviewer score is around 20% and the audience score is closer to 50%. That's a cult classic.

Bram Stoker's Way of the Vampire is at --/11, and is absolute trash. It's also hilariously stupid and worth watching with people who enjoy making fun of movies.

spoilerVan Helsing makes himself immortal, time passes, and he recruits a ragtag band of teens to fight vampires after he (ahem) teaches them kung fu. Big bad gives a rousing speech through Spirit of Halloween plastic fangs.

The parenthesis should say 'except A24'.

The first one to come to mind is The Core.

I think OP is saying a movie critics loved and everyone else pans.

Artsy fartsy pretentiousness can be quite fun.

Let me just add that tomatoes aren't the only indicator of how much you're going to enjoy watching a film, resp. of how "good" or "bad" a film is. badmovies.org for example uses skulls and slime drops, and while the two websites may have very different rating criteria, both are legit and can be valuable sources of entertainment.

A lot... But I think I'm thinking of different subject matter.

I just gotta say, Love After Lockup is wildly hilarious. It's my Jersey Shore

If you actually care what other people think only looking at Rotten Tomatoes is a mistake. I typically use Letterboxd with an extension that adds in many other sites
