Hats off to that truck driver for being incredibly attentive.

Dude just flung someone to their presumed death and gave zero fucks.

Better go grab something from my car and then just stand here like a totally uninvolved bystander watching something mildly curious

I think they were actually putting something back into their car.

That being said, Jesus christ who the fuck opens their door that forcefully?

[–] hikaru755@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

It looks like they opened the door normally, until the motorcycle got caught on it and forced it all the way open

Still, to just stand there instead of rushing over to help the person you may have amputated.

He did get absolutely launched tho. Wtf he got pneumatically operated doors or something???

That's literally why you're supposed to check your mirrors before you get out of your parked car, dumbass.

[–] transientpunk@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago

That's terrifying

This is why you never ride in painted, unprotected bike lanes. They are exceedingly dangerous for this and other reasons. Ride in the middle of the road for safety.

For what it's worth that person was on a motorcycle

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 2 points 1 year ago

Same rules apply! Edge of the road is total death. People driving in the lane and people opening car doors cannot see you as well. Not to mention stuff like people walking to the car doors, people unloading stuff, etc. The edge of the road just gives you so much less time to react to bad situations.

I've had people even throw their passenger door open in heavy traffic, where I almost flossed their door off, had I not swerved. And that was car to car!

I can't tell what's worse, the thought you just pushed a man to his death, being thrusted under a truck dazed but alive, or the thought you flattened someone you had no way of stopping from hitting. Life altering events for everyone!

Was that lady opening the car door superwoman or something? That motorcyclist got luckier than a leprechaun on St. Patty's Day.

[–] rektdeckard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The door was opened normally by the driver, it was just forced open the rest of the way by the motorcycle.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

it looks like door caught the motorcycle, look at the damage on the car door

You mean "St.Paddy's day"

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

This happened to me once, lucky the street was empty. You can't even react to this.

he clearly rolled a 20 on his save

If we continue to have 200lb bicyclists sharing the roadway with 80,000lb trucks, every interaction becomes lethal. THIS IS A SOLVED PROBLEM that we continue to ignore.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Doesn't really seem like it's very solved to me?

[–] Strykker@programming.dev 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The solution is to separate bike lanes from the road, this is ignore in basically all north american cities and else where too.

That said I think the bike in the video is a motorcycle so that wouldn't have helped them in this case.

on street parking is a plague. They could at least eliminate the parking by shifting it to a park n ride scheme.
