Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she's unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it's not too violent, it should be fine

Here's a list of game's I'd highly recommend from across all of space and time, filtered on female lead, and excluding ones where you can choose or design your own character), edit: filtered for most egregious age 5-inappropriate, random order:

  • ~~Potionomics~~
  • ~~Metal: Hellsinger~~
  • Riftbreaker
  • Ittle Dew
  • Transistor
  • Spiritfarer
  • ~~BPM: Bullets per Minute~~
  • Crypt of the Necrodancer
  • Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
  • ~~Blacktail~~
  • Night in the Woods
  • ~~Satisfactory~~
  • ~~Alien Isolation~~
  • TSIOQUE

Alien Isolation for a 5 year old. What could possibly go wrong.

Maybe just stick to the tutorial area.

Transistor is just a great game.

Once Hades 2 comes out, that is also an option

Sorry, I was deliberately mentioning things releasing before 2326. 😂

Spiritfarer is utterly excellent but also extremely sad (the entire game is a hospice care allegory), so if you go into that one keep in mind that at least one of you will probably be crying your eyes out at some point.

Ah crap, now I'm thinking of Alice the hedgehog and crying again.

[–] Deestan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

And the mushroom! He just popped out and is tiny and full of energy and curious and now he's SCARED I never want to play this game ever again

[–] 2tone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's a really beautiful experience

From what I remember, Ittle Dew would be great to play with a 5 year old. Some good recommendations there!

Suggesting Metal: Hellsinger to a 5 year old, spicy x)

Heyyy, I censored it after OP gave the age. :D

But if your 5yo can handle that game, they are destined for great things 🤘😐🤘
