Any of them still have street cred left?
Jessi Combs died after crashing a jet-powered high-speed race car at the Alvord Desert in southeastern Oregon while attempting to beat her four-wheel land speed record.
That's the ultimate street cred.
She died doing what she loved: going really fucking fast
Actually I think it was the stopping really fast that did her in.
I've intentionally avoided reading anything specific about it because it is genuinely tragic, but I assume with rocket powered land-speed-record-setting cars, if you crash, you turn into physics long before you come to a stop
I don't think it was overly tragic.
People breaking those types of records do whatever they can to minimize the risks but they know what they are getting into.
The Expanse comes to mind
Lake bed cred
Yeah Adam Savage is still doing nerdy tech stuff on youtube https://youtube.com/@tested?feature=shared
He had his "Untitled" podcast for a long time, but ended it maybe 5-6 years ago. It was great, and the old episodes are probably worth a listen if you haven't heard them before.
Oil industry is pretty awful, but the engineering and logistics involved is awesome.
Oil platforms and other heavy machinery is interesting?
This is true, but it still feels Faustian as hell. She did a whole season about "deep water energy" without once mentioning the fact that this shit is gonna kill us all
The comments on that video are something else lmao, Kari doused her reputation in that "deep water energy" and burned it
