less than 1tb seems pointless

If it has a SD slot, 1TB seems like overkill. The top Steam Deck only has 512GB.

Games are hitting 150gb+ these days.. 512gb ain't shit

Not the switch ones.

Yet many Steam Deck owners upgrade it to 1 or even 2TB internal SSD, plus a 1TB SD card.

For how cheap NVMe is, it's ridiculous that any console is less than 2TB by default. It's just a way for them to monetize on selling additional storage.

Thats exatcly what it is. Have you ever checked how much premium you pay for storage upgrades on pc? Twice as much minimum.

I’m fine with a 32Gb Switch, I just don’t want it to run at 720p 30fps

I think the Steam Deck tops out at 512GB as well, so it's pretty reasonable IMO.

It's a cheaper console targeted more for kids and casual gamers. Having a high end with 1tb is fine but I'm happy having SD expansion.
