OP here. I stole this from Facebook and I am simply too lazy to crop anything rather than just hitting the share button
If you're on windows shift + windows + s lets you drag a window that's instantly screenshotted and in your clipboard ready to be pasted. You can rebind this function to the screenshot key too
I think Win11 automatically opens snipping tool with screenshot button now. My laptops all seem to work that way now.
I think cropping already low-res jpegs will recompress them again and make them even lower quality
Could always encode as PNG or similar, as those aren't lossy.
