I apologize since I feel like this has been asked countless times, but I'm still looking for clarification.

Anyway, my current and rather basic setup:

  • Self-hosting Unifi controller 7.1.66 in a jail on TrueNAS-13.0-U2. No cloud features and everything is local.
  • USG-3P
  • USW-24-PoE
  • U6-Pro x2
  • USW-Flex-Mini x2

I'm interested in adding a G4 Doorbell Professional PoE Kit. At the moment I'm not concerned about saving historical recordings and live video is fine. I've come to understand that there is no way to self-host Unifi Protect, which is unfortunate. So, can I adopt, manage, and see live video with only the Unifi Protect mobile app? If so, would I be able to view live video through the app remotely off my local network? I installed the app and it seems like it can discover a console, but I believe it's looking for a Cloud Key device via bluetooth and there is no way to connect to a self-hosted Unifi controller. Is this correct and the only option is to set up a protect device such as a doorbell?

If this is the case, I'll look into the Cloud Key G2 Plus so I'll already have the storage to save video from the doorbell or if I add cameras in the future. This will be a minor inconvenience compared to running cat5 to my front door ;)

Thanks!

I can ssh into two devices (uap-pro and an AC lite). I had previously been able to access them but had to reset the network. I am running an edgerouter x as the router. I have forwarded tcp 8080 and udp 10001 to 192.168.1.1. Controller is running on a windows 11 laptop at 192.168.1.38. I have upgraded firm ware, reset, and upgraded again. I've tried turning windows firewall off. I've tried to access this from the Web UI without finding the devices to adopt. Both devices are solid white led. I have tried import commands to both access points.

Anyone have any ideas where I should go from here.

I recently bought a U6P to replace a U5 Lite in my home. My current setup has my PoE injector (I don't know the output, as it was given to me) going into the ERX, which provides PoE passthrough to the U5 Lite. Everything works great.

With the U6P, I had also bought a Tenda 802.3 at/af PoE, providing 51V/30W. I now realize that this seems like a bad idea to use it to provide passthrough power to the U6, as the ERX will fry with that much voltage - correct?

So, should I just disable PoE passthrough on the ERX and add my Tenda 51V/30W between the ERX output and the U6P instead?

I just installed a PDU Pro into my setup, and it seems to be incompatible with my APC battery backups/UPSs?

A smaller UPC-600 won’t power the PDU without wall power connected, and a larger 1500VA unit immediately throws error F02 (solid state component damage!) if I have the PDU Pro connected to it, but not wall AC. Both UPSes are content if wall AC is connected.

WTF is going on?

Unfortunately due to a roof water leak my UPS was bricked which brought down my network which included my UDM Pro. When I got everything sorted out and restarted my UDM Pro it has lost its config! It started up like it was a first time setup. Luckily the console restore (from the online backups) during the setup worked well and restored my network and protect system perfectly.

My only whine or complaint is that a power loss made the UDM Pro completely lose its configurations. I just don't think that should happen!

I may be getting a back up connection and wondered if this supported fail over. So if my primary went down and would start using the secondary?

Hi,

Are there more people like me waiting if a upgraded UDM will be released?

The UDR has the features i would like in a upgraded UDM, but it lacks the throughput of higher then 500Mbit tiers.

I would the UDM with 2,5 Gb uplink, Dual wan and POE, Wifi 6 or higher.

Posting for my brother who isn't on reddit. This setup is for a small business served by symmetrical 150mbps with no plans to upgrade - small town and not a lot is available. Current setup is a USG-3P with a first Gen Cloud Key and a single UAP-AC-LR all connected to a 24 port Netgear. There might be a chance of upgrading the ap at some point and maybe even adding two more, but that's all this system is ever going to be - small, simple, with the need to be hands off and rock solid.

The question is what to upgrade to since the CK is EOL and updates are needed.

Dream Router seems out even though it's technically sufficient just because you all say it's flakey.

UDMP seems like total overkill.

Does he just upgrade to the CKG2+ and keep the USG? Is this a long term solution? What can this handle for speed if an upgrade ever were on the table.

Thanks for advice.

I tried to google this and only got links for moving to a new site, which is not what I'm doing. I just want to take an AP that is currently plugged into my main switch and plug it into a new switch that I just installed a lot closer to the AP. Can I just plug it in and it will boot up and work right away? Will I have to forget the device and adopt it again on the new switch? Do I have to factory reset or anything like that?

Hi,

I currently have a 5 gbps down Internet fiber connection. My IPS router splits theses 5 gbps as follows :

  • 2.5 gbps ETH
  • 1 gbps ETH
  • 1 gbps ETH
  • 0.5 gbps over wifi

(My fellow french redditors will recognize the Freebox Pop).

A UDM Pro SE would share the 2.5 gbps over the LAN. Is there any way to combine the other 2 ETH ports into something so that the bandwidth would be shared on every devices. The router doesn't support link aggregation.

What device could provide me with such a power?

Thanks

Question about network setup on a UDM. I have been doing some research on the settings and configuration.

For a IoT network if I select guest network can I still turn mdns on that network for my trusted devices to easily work with AppleTV and my phones? Or am I better off to make that a normal network and just control all that through firewall rules?

Also say I have something in my IoT network that has to connect to another network if I did do guest could I create a firewall rule that over rides the guest option? My assumption is the guest is just making it non routable to other vlans.

Also before plugging devices in if have the MAC addresses can I setup dhcp reservations by typing a host name I desire with ip and Mac so when they come online they get that specific ip? (Mostly for migration from current firewall to UDM to keep same ips).

Final question is it seems there is some built in ad-blocking. I see it can be done at the network level but can I set it to specific devices only and not network wide?

Hi - I have been a ubiquiti home user for a few years now. Have an edgerouter X + 2 aps at home, and a udm-pro, 4aps, 4 cameras setup at another property, so I'm relatively familiar with the software and possible options.

I've recently moved and am wanting to upgrade my home setup. I almost pulled the trigger on a UDM as it fit my needs pretty close, but the 700mbps cap was a deal breaker.

  • 2 APs, minimum 1 over POE but ideally 2

  • PC, Printer, NAS hardwired

  • Ideally a few extra eth ports for a little more expansion beyond that

  • I would like to add a camera and/or doorbell camera eventually, likely wireless.

I guess the catch is I'm just a home user, and my needs are pretty basic. I don't really want to have rackmount equipment at home as it's overkill for my needs and bulky.

So from my perspective that rules out the Dream lineup. I'm not sure what other options I would have so any suggestions would be appreciated. What comes to mind is something like a USG + Lite Switch 8 but not sure if that's the right fit.

Does Ubiquiti have any plans to release a newer version of the UDM that has gigabit ethernet?

Thanks

I have a dual WAN ER12 (both ethernet fiber ONTs from different ISPs). I am running 50/50 active/active, with a wireguard UDP listening on standard port, 51820. Firewalls all setup. wireguard only works (UDP) on eth9 , when the ISP on eth9 stops working, I can't initiate a connection on the "secondary" eth8 ISP port.

I did a little googling and I found maybe there is a UDP routing bug on the edgerouter. I tried a one line change and my other wireguard site-to-site failed (as well as my WG self-hosted VPN).

Any suggestions?

I'd like to be able to wireguard into the "secondary" ISP's wireguard server when the primary goes down, mostly to trouble shoot and look at the LAN servers when I am away.

thanks

I had a DreamMachine Pro and now active a DreamMachine SE. Both works fine since month. Four weeks ago both DreamMachines are resetting the WAN Port. Means Link down - Link up. The connection is offline for 3 seconds, every 3 hours. I changed the cable ( CAT8.1), GBICs, EMT, no changes. The ISP is not reacting… Here some exports from the syslog:

Anyone an idea?

I am running into an issue with my Nanobeam 5AC PtP, specifically the throughput being significantly lower on the local side than the remote side, with increased latency. I've been scratching my head on why this may be and now need help.

Things I have done already:

  • Rebooted (full unplug, wait, plug-in)
  • Changed channels from 80MHz to 60MHz
  • Adjusted output power +/-
  • Confirmed alignment

On top of that, I am unsure why the signal difference is exceeding the 5 dB. Weather is not an issue currently.

Does anyone have any recommended troubleshooting steps to resolve this? If more details are needed, please let me know..!

About to extend my basement (crawl space), where I currently have a G3 Flex, with a G5 Dome, and a U6 Pro. Since I only have a single ethernet cable I figured I could get a USW-Flex + USW-Flex-Utility (for extra power) and connect the cameras and AP to that. Would that work or is there something in the PoE setup here that would make this not work? The ethernet cable is connected to a USW-Pro-24-PoE which only has 48V (or so I've been told.)

On the other side of the basement I have another ethernet cable, but no power, and I got a Nanoswitch and the Ubiquiti instant af to turn 48v PoE into 24v, and then 2x G3 Flex connected to that. Could I add another G3 to that setup, or would that be too much for the PoE?

I have a client that I installed a unifi wifi setup for - has a AP6-LR, and AP-PRO. Sitting right next to the AP6-LR, his phone and laptop get disconnected about 5 times an hour. Can't get any other devices to stay connected either. He is out in the middle of nowhere and uses starlink for the internet, so no neighbors causing channel issues. The other day I saw an error that something Ubiquiti didn't recognize was repeating the wifi names, but the mac addresses were unknown when looking them up. I've tried the following:

  • Changed the SSID

  • Turned off 5 ghz and only done 2.4

  • Turned off 2.4 ghz and only done 5

  • Tried different devices

  • Changed the power on the radios from high to medium, never in auto

  • Tried channel 1, 6, and 11 for 2.4, auto for 5ghz when its been on

  • Done a channel scan and nothing in the area is using any of the channels

I'm about to the point to give this guy his money back for the setup, as I've never had any problems like this before with UniFi. The starlink wifi wasn't broadcasting far enough so thats why we did 2 wifi units.

Any ideas or things to try?

Edit: All AP's are on the most recent software update for their model, and using the POE adapters that came with the devices.

So we have had a problem with some neighborhood teens throwing trash and food at some of the houses in the area and this has spurred me to add some cameras.

Currently, I run Unifi controller on a Raspberry Pi dedicated to it. This works beautifully for me for now. I run 3 FlexHD APs from it, and that's all. I have other branded switchgear that offers POE and POE+. I also run a pfSense firewall which works great for me.

I am considering buying the following and am looking for feedback:

  • Network Video Recorder Pro ( UNVR-Pro )
  • G4 Doorbell Pro ( UVC-G4 Doorbell Pro-US )
  • 2x G5 Pro Camera ( UVC-G5-Pro )
  • 2x G5 Video Enhancer ( UACC-G5-Enhancer )

Would adding the network video recorder enable the full Protect functionality with my existing RPi Unifi controller? Or would I be forced to add some sort of hardware controller appliance as well?

On a less important note, my current switchgear is Mikrotik and has been rock solid for me for many years. If adding a Unifi switch was somehow needed, I would likely go with the USW-Pro-48-POE (the Pro 48 port) under the "buy once, cry once" approach. Though, I'm loath to give up my Mikrotik since it is just so damn good.

Need help figuring out what to do about my very poor wireless signal.

I live in a house dimension 40x30 ft, which only has a main floor and a basement.

The internet connection comes into the basement, into a room that is also my office, so that is where I have my router and the nanoHD.

I placed the nanoHD on top of a bookshelf that reaches almost to the basement ceiling. It's flat on the bookshelf top.

Anyway, the nanoHD performance is awful. With a computer not 15 ft away, in the basement, I get terrible wifi performance, like 50 megaBITS per second (speedtest.net).

Same when I put the computer on a desk on my main floor, also about 20 feet away.

Next I placed two computers next to each other on the desk on the main floor. A desktop and a laptop, and tried to copy a large (10 gb) file between them.

it took 30+ minutes.

I moved to my bedroom on the main floor, about 25 ft from the AP, and I ran NetSpot. The bar is orange (bad) and I sit at -69 DB (31%0 signal strength.

This is what I see.

There isnt much in my house. The floors are wood and 2x8 studs. When I did my test in the basement 15 ft away, what separated the computer from the AP was just a single separation wall.

For what it's worth, the AP is facing upwards on the bookshelf, but I've found no difference when having it face downwards or sideways.

Clues?

I setup Wireguard vpn and it connects with no problem. I cannot access the internet when the vpn is active. I edited the allowed ips which is my UDM 192.168.0.1/24 and also added 0.0.0.0/0 but I still can't access the internet. I read through a lot of posts but to no avail. Anyone have a solution for me, much appreciated.
