Hey everybody! I have been a long time player of GW2 and I love it, but I have always wanted to give GW1 a try for three reasons.
-
To see the story
-
To acquire God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals
-
To fill out the entire Hall of Monuments
To preface this, Guild Wars 1 was the first game I bought when I got my first computer 17ish years ago. I played through the entire Prophecies storyline and that was it. I remember enjoying the game but do not remember any of the content. So I was able to re-acquire my account with 20 platinum on it and many birthday gifts and start my journey.
I returned to the game about three weeks ago and have had a lot of time to play during the weekends. So far I have put about 80 hours in to my journey. In that time, I have come into contact with the community many times and I have to say… the community is amazing! Both in game and in various discords. I would love to give a shout out to many specific people but I feel it best to not get too specific.
Everyone has been so helpful with builds, support, tips, and lessons. Every trade, mission, or interaction has been pleasant and it’s been a joy to see how active the community is, even for such an old game.
So what’s the bad? Well… people can be overly helpful. I will say this, it’s very rare that this occurs, but sometimes I’ll be asking for info on how to do a mission by myself and people start inviting me, teleporting me to the mission, trying to do it for me. At times I’ll be asking some questions about my class and people will start explaining to me how a different class is better and I should roll a different class because it’ll be faster or more fun. In terms of actual negative interactions, I have only had one person who I feel has been a sour part of the community and they are only on the discord. To me, that’s amazing for a game like this! I will also say, even those people who have been... a bit harder to deal with, they have also still had a wealth of valuable knowledge they shared with me and I am grateful for it.
I have had some absolutely wonderful people help me through Urgoz's Warren, Domain of Anguish, and Fissure of Woe. I only planned on doing them on normal and yet they took me through on HM, explained things to me, and made me feel confident and wanted as I got the trophies for my HoM. I have also done The Deep but that experience was a bit lesser. It felt rushed, chaotic, and it felt like I was just being carried through the entire thing in a stressful manner. I very much look forward to the day I find a group to try out Underworld, and I look forward to trying to solo Sorrow's Furnace with the help I've been given with gameplay mechanics.
My journey is still on-going. I have learned some things I do weekly, like my Nick Gifts. I have gotten future goals, like focusing on EotN rep once that week comes here very soon. I have all of my current plans in place, like finishing Prophecies so all the campaigns are done and continuing to work on my vanquishing and cartographing. Finally, I have my shopping lists as I keep looking for 4000 more sweet points, 9000 more party points, and 8 more primeval armor fragments. There is so much more to discover, so much more to learn, and I can't wait to see how the rest of this long journey goes.
Thank you to the Guild Wars community for making this journey such a lovely experience and I look forward to all my future interactions with everyone on here, in discord, and in-game, as well as my next post here when I finally finish the journey!
