I love how most major US companies commit crimes against humanity and that's considered very normal and business as usual but whenever Saudi Arabia diversifies its funds it's suddenly the most horrifying inhumane maniacal evil thing imaginable and we get 500 articles reiterating that. They spent money on football? They're sportswashing us! It's all a conspiracy!!!

Meanwhile many US companies run on child slavery, others like Nestle extort precious materials from Africa and intentionally de-stabalize countries there, many western countries such as US support genocide in Israel and so on. But that's just business as usual, can we PLEASE focus on Saudi Arabia's spending on sports?!?!?

You really don't need to care about whatever's happening with Threads as a casual user

Mostly aesthetically, but also since Linux Mint is a very stable distro updates are usually slow and the packages it uses are often a little outdated. If you're the type of person to want to update to the newest thing as soon as it's out, then it's probably not for you.

Manjaro and Ubuntu have never really had perfect out of the box experiences imo, and as usual the Linux community loved to recommend bad starter distros. Even Fedora has some eyebrow-raising stuff like forcing you to manually install Nvidia drivers through the command line.

If you want something that "just works" I'd highly recommend ZorinOS or PopOS. They've got good defaults. Linux Mint is also good, but it does feel a little outdated.

Just wanted to put it out there that I ( simple@lemmy.world ) was one of the most active posters and commenters at gaming@beehaw.org . If this instance wanted to be closed off and heavily moderated it should have been clear at the start, a lot of people were relying on communities here and suddenly closing them off is going to harm Lemmy as a whole.

Seeing everyone in the comments pointing fingers and calling us toxic evil trolls is also ironically very toxic. This doesn't seem like the friendly community it's trying to be. Most of the content on this instance wasn't made by beehaw users. What a disappointing decision.

Kind of a hilarious, yet probably effective marketing strategy.
