It's a fair take, but even still, someone who goes out of their way to get to fdroid and install Fennec should very well be aware of alternatives to Google.

An argument that discards knowledge as a factor only makes sense to me in a context of a tech illiterate installing Firefox directly from the Play Store.

Also, from my own knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong) the point of Fennec is to be as FOSS as possible, and not to have all the provacy-oriented defaults, if that were the case, I presume it would come with uBlock preinstalled, for example.

It's also worth mentioning that Fennec never changes what defaults you set with updates (at least in my personal experience, would like to hear if anyone had a different story) EDIT my own default settings was changed to Google later that day. So can't argue on that ๐Ÿ˜‚

I know Google is bad and all, but in the case of Fennec, is it really that big of a deal? I say that because someone who knows how to get Fennec on their phones will also be aware on what search engine they use, so it's not like the maintainer is advertising Google or anything IMO

Alternatively, you could try to install a GSI instead of a fully custom built ROM, that's how I got a custom rom back when I had a Samsung A03 Core. But even then, the way android is locked down on each device along the absurdly short support Motorola offers is really infuriating.

I daily drive a moto g14 for about a year now. A rather basic phone, but thankfully still didnt have any software related issues yet :P hope motorola gives some care to your model tho

The reason why I stick with motorola is because the Android they ship is the closest to pure AOSP. (From what's avaiable in my country)

I managed to run Office 2007 and Office 2010, the latter requiring the winbind package to be installed.

But both of these are quite old, so Libreoffice seems more reliable to use anyway.

I managed to install Office 2013 (sometimes with success, sometimes not) and it ran close to perfectly, if it wasnt for the pop up menus disappearing :(

Is it avaiable on debian repos?

Actually.. You're right about the 21st century lmao. I just wanted an excuse to quote Metal Gear Solid

Also, the issue is not ram itself, of course, 2GB is enough for lots of fun on Linux, it's the CPU that's killing me

[โ€“] merci3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, that's what I'm researching right now.. I hope I can at least make it useable enough for web browsing

Single core, 32 bit CPU, can't even do video playback on VLC. But it kinda works for some offline work, like text editing, and even emulation through zsnes! It's crazy how Linux keeps old hardware like this running.

Thankfully though, this laptop CPU is upgradable, and so is the ram, so I'm planning on revitalizing and bringing this old Itautec to the 21st century ๐Ÿ˜„

I tried out most (if not all) of the music players on flathub, but I always end up going back to Rhythmbox. It's so simple, lightweight, got just enough features (for my use case) and blends well with GTK Desktops (I mostly use Gnome and Cinnamon) and it looks so clean in my Nord theme ๐Ÿ˜†

How has your experience with Rhythmbox? do y'all got any alternative you think everybody should give a try? I personally think Elisa is a close second!
