I am on Lemmy only now because of the Luigi censorship, but I used Narwhal on Reddit since before the API fiasco and after I was happy to pay for Narwhal to keep the increasing enshittification at bay. Now I use Apollo with Lemmy and it is like the old days on Reddit, and very similar to the Narwhal experience, but with less content. We all just have to make the posts and feel assured that we will not be overrun by bots and corporate overlords.

I wish you meant the Narwhal team, but I fear you are right that the likes of Spez et al. will find a way to corrupt whatever public forum is large enough get their attention.
This is the final straw for me. Today, after years of accelerating decline, I deleted my Reddit account and made my Lemmee lurking official. My only regret is abandoning the the good people at Narwhal who always made Reddit better, but never had a chance to save it from its corporate-aspiring overlords. Good-bye!
As well as the 2-4% that the merchant pays to them for every one of your purchases. That is passed on to you in the price that the store charges. Only gas stations regularly give you a discount for cash, and that discount is them just removing that 2-4% up-charge that they need to include to cover their payment to Mastercard or Visa on the very thin margin that they make in selling gas.
