Perez is so slow, slowing down on an outlap is not enough to let him through

Yes it feels secure. The magnets are very strong and the locking geometry has tight tolerances, so that on the cutting plane there is no movement whatsoever. And even when a side force is applied to the blade tip, the blade moves but remains engaged, because the two magnets in the back keep it in place. The only thing to look for is avoid scraping the blade edge to the inner side of the body - the mechanism is very “fidgety” but using it too much dulls the blade. You can avoid this scraping by pulling the edge away, but you have to purposely think about it. I even imported it to Europe from the US, so to you it will cost surely less than to me ;)

My office carry is the Exceed Designs TiRant Razor-M: awesome mechanism and really compact. Really expensive, too…

Here paired with its sibling flashlight EDC:

That was a PHEV

Since I discovered RAW Power thanks to Lemmy and used it happily since, I thought I post the availability of this more advanced app recently released. With the uncertainty around Affinity Photo after the Canva acquisition, maybe it of interest to some :)

Western companies joined the slave labor train. Apart from niche and boutique manufacturers, almost any product has a lot of parts produced in China.

They did :) Even with the preorder complication and the choice of emitter by email, got everything right and fast.

No I think the level 3 is only available in selected countries, roads and speeds. It’s called Drive Pilot and it’s not the one they are using in the video.

[–] Etnaphele@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (3 children)

You got me here, wasn’t even aware that the Mercedes system is officially a level 2 with Steer Control that is supposed to do much better than seen in the video. I still think they should have compared with the more basic Autopilot, though, as this is what consumer report evaluated and the safety problems of Tesla’s lack of driver monitoring are there.

I edit my first comment according to what I learned through the discussion :)

[–] Etnaphele@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (5 children)

I just care about proper and honest reporting. I’d have a Tesla any day over a Mercedes, for many reasons, but bashing systems based on the wrong assumptions is wrong. They are showing a line keeping assistant that requires steer control at all times (Merc) and a system that aims to be unsupervised - only that it should supervise and doesn’t do it properly, hence the lower score in many tests and the federal investigations in the USA.

MB Driver Assist could be compared with Tesla Autopilot. FSD does obviously much more in that is a “Level 3 beta”, albeit always level 2 because of its development stage. The yet to be released Drive Pilot from Mercedes - the Level 3 automated driving system - could be compared with Tesla FSD, that is a comparison I would gladly see!

Btw, the start of the video on the consumer report evaluation is about Driver Assist and Autopilot. The car in the video then runs FSD.

This comparison doesn’t make any sense, why bother?

EDIT: actually quite interesting in how bad the Mercedes lane keeping is even though with a Level 2 automation should do better. Misleading title and video beginning, because Consumer Reports evaluated Autopilot and not FSD.

Hullo! Begging pardon in advance for the missing beamshots, here a couple of pictures of the latest buys:

  • FireflyLite NovMu V2 with Nichia E21A 4500K R9080 in Fossil Grey
  • FireflyLite X1L Elite with Cree XHP70.3 HI 4500K CRI 90 in black HAIII

Build quality and LEDs are just awesome, they aren’t cheap but feel very premium. Feel free to ask any questions!

I’ll try to get some beamshots if anyone is interested, I’m still not sure on the right place and setup.

Hullo! I just wanted to make aware of the latest updates on one of the newest Fireflylite flashlights, the X1L Elite (I am in no way affiliated with them and read the most info on Reddit, but it would be nice to kickoff a discussion on it here too).

Yesterdays update includes these 3 emitter choices:

  • CREE XHP50.3 HI 5000K CRI90 2600lumens 120 000cd
  • CREE XHP70.3 HI 6500K CRI70 3500lumens 84 000cd
  • CREE XHP70.3 HI 4000K CRI90 2600lumen 62 000cd

It's very strange that the 70.3 HI 4000K would output the same lumes as the 50.3: I asked them and Ivy (the sales representative of Fireflylite) says it's because it's the low bin K2, if someone were interested.

There is as of now just one review by ZeroAir but it is expected that at least two other reviews will come out soon.

I hope some of you find this interesting, I personally find the 4 new models that are slowly coming out of preorder beautiful and with solid specs.

What are your thoughts? Did you preorder the X1L or other new gen FFL flashlights?

  • Keychron Q8 Pro
  • Gazzew U4Tx + a couple of Kailh Box Navy switches
  • MTNU Beige keycaps (lovely new profile, GMK made double-shot PBT, expensive - even more due to Colemak)

I bought the keyboard immediately when I found out they made a BT version of the Q8 (I use a Q10 daily at the office), as I was looking for an iPad compatible one. Very happy with it!

Just wanted to share the link to the livestream of the designer Matt3o looking at the first batch of the MTNU keycaps. They are made by GMK out of PBT, with double shot legends. The profile has been developed by Matt3o and GMK as a Cherry-height spherical angle shape. First batch is currently shipping out and has the WoB, Beige and Susu colorways.

I find it really interesting and I don’t think I read anything here regarding this.

Hullo together! I finally got to order my first iPad (Pro 11")! I'm a long time MacBook and iPhone user and do a little photography now and then. On the Mac, I use Olympus OM Workspace to import and decode the RAW files. They go as TIFF files in Affinity Photo for the actual editing - I find the ORF engine in Affinity much worse than the "official" Olympus one.

Affinity Photo for iPad is a thing, but:

  • importing directly could mean use an inferior RAW engine (I don't think Olympus has native iPad software for that - can the iPad even handle ORF files?)
  • The V2 release was really lukewarm and I still use the V1 on my Mac. I am a bit skeptical of the software house in the long run, but I'd love to be proven wrong!

Now, do you have suggestions on how to handle an editing routine on iPad and which software to use, ideally without subscription costs?

The edited and finished photos are usually saved in Files and imported in Apple Photos for iCloud storage.

Thanks in advance!

Interesting interview from my go-to cycling podcast. Nice and unexpected episode!

I found a very good - albeit not perfect because of the bead-blasted finish - match for my Reylight Pineapple Mini Ti! Such a small, light and useful package, and in my eyes really beautiful! What do you think?

Hullo! Could someone help me find a knife with the following:

  • small (office duty, max 7cm long)
  • Raw Ti scales
  • pocket clip
  • slip joint or lock with 2-hand opening

The target is to match look and size of a Reylight Pineapple Mini Ti.

Thanks in advance!
