It's not magic but it's definitely not explained. There's also some subplot where the mayor or someone thinks there's gold on the beach... It's an odd duck

The UI looks the same but it's actually reworked to make it more compatible with touchscreens. Haven't played too much but that's a huge QOL thing I've noticed already
I bought it on Android and there are no in app purchases. Supposedly that was because it was going to be released as a demo with 'pay to unlock full game' functionality and that was canned for a full release. IDK about that but it's the full game for 10 USD in my area
