Similar to Music theory. It's not absolutely necessary to write good music, but understanding it allows you to be more purposeful in your writing and know why certain things work and when to break the "rules" for an effect.

Yeah I'm going to have to agree. I'm an alcoholic myself and this is a problematic way of living with it. Moderation seldom works for alcoholics as it is and by putting your choice to drink on someone else's offerings seems to just be a way to escape any blame should it end in full relapse.
Everybody's journey is different though so I'm not going to judge. But at no point was I able to stop drinking until I straight stopped drinking. As they say "one drink is too much and a hundred isn't enough."
If charging dinner to the company is going to tank your P&L, you've got much bigger things to worry about. And no, they ain't going to promote you because you saved them $30.
So originally anything west of the Appalachian mountains was called the west. Then as they explored more of the land and gained territories the line that defined the west moved to the Mississippi, making the territories between the Appalchians and Mississippi the Midwest.
Now the regions are split based on census data, and there are huge swaths of land in the West and Midwest that are sparsely populated so they are larger regions in size.
It makes sense if you actually look into it and take a 5 minute google search to learn about it.
Do you have a Microcenter near you? Their prices are usually the best I've found. They have some shippable gaming laptops that just barely miss the specs or price target you have from what I saw but it's worth looking into.
