More of a sysadmin humor, but there's not really a community for that, and from what I've seen here, there's plenty of overlap.

Note: This is just a drill, but it did happen last weekend.

Found the senior dev.

Seriously though, go enjoy your life. Even work emergencies are just work.

Where's a 13 year old girl that knows Unix when you need her?

I searched a few of the bigger instances, but didn't find one. It's been almost a year, so I figure if one was going to pop up, it would have by now.

So, I made one: !its_a_unix_system@dubvee.org (https://dubvee.org/c/its_a_unix_system)

Will try to get a few posts up soon.

Assign to maintenance. I don't fix fences.

Alright. Which jackass pushed to prod on a Friday?

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

In all the recent cases of this happening to me, it's networking that pushed to prod on a Friday. lol

Last time it was the data team.

"We'll just modify this Elastic Search template and not tell anyone. It'll be fine and no one will even notice ."

Wrong, dipshits! Everything was not fine and lots of people noticed.

It was a Saturday, but I was on-call when Networking shit the bed. One of the main trunk lines degraded and they took almost five minutes to switchover to backup 'cuz their automated degredation monitoring was on a five-minute interval. XD

For some reason this specific graphic has always been one of my favorite parts of this movie.

Edit: I love the internet sometimes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94jIQm0YcCs

Same. I'm a big fan of interactive schematic views in general. There's a few more (when the door locks go down and when Lex boots them back up) that are almost as cool.

β€œFind Nedry! Check the vending machines!”

it's alright it's just a planned maintenance window nothing bad will happen

This reminds me of how my manager would always book vacations to align with major rollouts.

[–] cerement@slrpnk.net 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

the number of games that insist on pushing out patches, expansions, hotfixes on Fridays …

[–] arudesalad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

One of the mmo devs for a game I play did that. Game was unplayable for all of Christmas. They are never doing that again.

[–] Toes@ani.social 1 points 6 months ago

I was responsible for a 100k user outage around Christmas. It's the eggnog man it guides you.

Saving this one for next time I'm on call for weekend monitoring.

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I dunno but it involves Gluttonous amounts of whip cream

[–] veniasilente@lemm.ee 2 points 5 months ago

That's why I don't have monitor dashboards 😎
