if it worked that way then it should work the same from a win vm, you may have to fiddle with passing through the usb device or hub but that's usually auto for mouse and keyboard. i'd recommend virtmanager to run vms, btw.

In Linux, I used Input Remapper https://github.com/sezanzeb/input-remapper to configure my Microsoft mouse buttons. I never tried it with a virtual machine, so I'm not sure about that.
And yes, forward and back were really annoying settings for it.

is your microsoft mouse you mentioned wired or wireless?
I'm having some issues getting it to work with wireless, haven't tried doing it wired yet.

No worries, I'm just wondering if there's a workaround for my controller actually. I don't know what the issue is, it seems like the software allows me to remap one of the button inputs how I'm wanting to but when I start a game the controller is no longer recognized when I have the remapping software running for it.
I may just make a separate post about it.
