There is a $70 version and an $80 version. And while I agree mostly with the sentiment that companies shouldn't expect $70-80 for games, that is mostly limited to big publicly traded companies that fill these full priced games with microtransaction gotcha garbage.

However, this is Larian Studios we are talking about. They are a private company that self publishes and this game has no bullshit in it. It's a full priced title for a metric fuck ton of content. It's a game made with tremendous love and care and attention to detail. It's a game not maximized for profit, but for fun and player creativity. Games like this just don't get made anymore and the soaring review scores speak volumes as to the quality of this game.

I can understand if you can't afford it on your current budget, but this is not a game to make an example out of. Boycott $80 COD, boycott F2P and P2W, boycott EA, boycott Ubisoft, but don't lump Larian in with their ilk.

Aren’t most PS5 games $69.99? Why should BG3 be any different?

That's the £ price. In the US, these games are $60. In Germany, they are 80€. Baldurs Gate actually sits at 70€, 80€ for the deluxe. I'm super fine with that actually.

No, they’re not. They’re $69.99 in the US — the exact same price as Baldur’s Gate 3

I don’t really understand what OP’s issue with it is when it’s inline with Sony’s pricing since day 1.

Huh that makes even less sense now

The price jumping to $70 was announced around the PS5 launch. It was controversial, but easily overshadowed by the hype of a new console release. Games can still sell for less, but $70 has replaced $60 as the default asking price for AAA games on PlayStation.

I mean as much as I'd like to be saving money as well, and the other comment saying every game company charging this nowadays, simply because everyone else does.. I agree

But also, the game has gotten incredible reviews. There was quite a lot about this game setting the bar for gaming and game developers. In that regard, honestly, I'm fine paying that price.

What I'm not fond of is yearly releases, charging that price for a game that is like a dlc to last years game and got so much MTX it could very well be f2p. Cough cod and FIFA

Looks like it is $70 on the PlayStation store, for me at least.

Yeah it's pissing me off that so many companies are charging $80 for new games.

"Oh, well everyone else is doing it so we have to as well in order to compete."

Bullshit. Everyone else is doing it because they're using this argument. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yep. Not going to cave in. Sucks. Would have liked to play this.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago

There'll be sales sometime down the line. Don't have to play every new release immediately.

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's literally 60 dollars on steam right now

I posted this in PS5, right?
