These schmucks keep repeating "RICO" like it's some dumbass SovCit incantation or something.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 74 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's because they're trying to normalize what Trump is being charged with in Georgia

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 53 points 7 months ago (2 children)

This is always what they do with everything.

Ever wonder why "BoTh SiDeS" arguments are so prevalent? It's because they work tirelessly to take any argument one might have about the right and pin it on someone from the left too.

It's the projection you see constantly. It's their #1 go-to "trick." Level the playing field and now your supporters can stay with you because "the other guy is just as bad and I hate woke anyway so I'm sticking with (insert Hitlerwannabe here)"

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Exactly. See:

  • "Fake news"
  • The Biden crime family
  • Democrats stole the election
  • Biden had classified documents
  • Claims that Democrats want to get rid of democracy
  • "No puppet. No puppet. You're the puppet."
[–] ghostdoggtv@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

At this point if you see "both sides" and don't immediately assume it's a right winger you should probably double check to make sure you're not standing in a flaming pile of shit

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago

Really all they have are "whataboutisms." They did this with Obama when criticizing Trump, they're doing it with Biden, they did it with Hillary.

They never address the problems of their party, it's always about what the other guy is doing, which is usually entirely made up.

Wait wrong Rico...

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It's almost as if they've been coached. Say it ain't so.

[–] bazus1@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I did not know of that sketch, thanks! I don't know if it's staged or not (I hope it was because he was too aggressive IMO), but I would have replied "your mom".

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago

Billy on the Street was a tv show through Funny or Die that ran for years. He approached random new Yorkers and asked them pop culture questions. Some people think there might have been staged stuff, but supposedly it's all real.

For anyone not getting this reference here's a clip

[–] TheTetrapod@lemmy.world 56 points 7 months ago (1 children)

News outlets, I implore you, please start writing articles and stop just posting videos.

[–] theparadox@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

But if they just keep posting trending videos they can fire more journalists. Writing more articles means they'd have to hire them and they are expensive.

[–] galoisghost@aussie.zone 32 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Is Tony Bobulinski related to Dennis Denuto?

“It’s RICO, it’s corruption, it’s the vibe”

[–] HWK_290@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

Ah, the serenity

[–] doingthestuff@lemmy.world 28 points 7 months ago (2 children)

This is the conversation everyone should have with police when they demand ID.

[–] pmmeyourtits@ani.social 42 points 7 months ago (2 children)

That may get you shot.

Instead, read and react based on this article https://www.rocketlawyer.com/family-and-personal/general-legal-matters/legal-guide/police-stops-know-your-rights-when-pulled-over-or-questioned#:~:text=After%20you%20speak%20with%20the,is%20a%20crime%20in%20itself.

It's consistent with what I've seen other lawyers say and remember when the police are near it's always Shut The Fuck Up Friday.

[–] doingthestuff@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

If you're pulled over they can make up a crime, the laws around driving and vehicles are almost endless. Give them your ID. But if you're just on the sidewalk or something, start recording and ask them what crime you're suspected of. "Suspicious" or "I got a call" is not a crime.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Also don't do two crimes at once. For example, you can either jaywalk or have crack in your pocket. But don't do both. Prioritize - it's the key to success.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

So you're saying that I should finish plotting to overthrow the government of Myanmar and THEN rob a bank rather than try to do both at the same time?

[–] rhadamanth_nemes@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Nah that's just efficiency.

[–] quindraco@lemm.ee 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You have an inalienable right to stfu. Use it.

[–] pmmeyourtits@ani.social 5 points 7 months ago

Every day is Shut the fuck up Friday

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Am I being detained? Goodbye.

That's the extent of the conversation you should have with cops

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Here in CO you can be legally detained for 24 hours for no reason last time I checked. While you have every right to refuse ID when it's within your right, I'm much more likely to just hand it over rather than risk being detained overnight. Which sucks.

[–] DrMorose@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That is not true. They still need probable cause to detain you, and if they have that they can actually hold you up to a max of 72 hrs before they must file actual charges. But for a stop they can only detain you in so long to effect the investagory period. That can take however long but for say a traffic stop should be like 20-30 minutes.

A few people in the Atlanta jail died while having no charges filed.

S'true.

Holland had been in jail since May 2023, waiting to find out if the DA’s office was going to prosecute him on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Obstruction.

Holland is the eleventh inmate to die in the jail in the past year--the first death in 2024.
