Does this cat have extra ears??

[–] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 38 points 8 months ago

So he can hear in 4D

I’m not sure what those are, but I think they are adorable.

It's called the double ear mutation! It's a known recessive gene that appears in some cats.

Yes. I share the link in another comment.

Oh thanks! When I was here before I was the only comment… or maybe they just didn’t load or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No. She is bleping out of her ears.

The cat is named Midas and he hears just fine with the extra set of ears.

I'd be so tempted to name that cat "What?" or "Huh?" Lol

[–] Macallan@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

I'd probably go with "Radar" or "Sonar" or something like that.

What's the ear situation here?

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 18 points 8 months ago

According to the link I shared:

The deformation has been linked to a recessive gene mutation from her parents.

Wish I knew!

I was able to find some context. I hope this helps other curious visitors.

Polydactylism applies to ears as well as toes for kitties.

TIL.

Cats are special, because any mutation actually makes them even cuter. Down syndrome cat? Extremely cute. 4 ears? Dangerously cute. Additional thumbs? Hazardously cute. They just can't go wrong.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

Im all ears.

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Yo dawg... I mean cat.

[–] Biotron1@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Also he's constantly bleeping. Does it go along with the mutation?
