Just 2?

(Some accounts are on instances that don't federate with Memes@lemmy.ml, so this is only a subset of my alts)

See that guy over there? Yeah....fuck that guy.

[–] NegativeLookBehind@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago

What did that guy ever do to you, hm?

If a famous person wants to do an AMA with the literally dozens of us here, I suppose they can register with their name on the top few instances and then it’s up to mods to ban pranksters impersonating them elsewhere?

There's that person going around impersonating Margot Robbie. At least there was, I haven't seen them in a while.

People seemed to love it, and most seemed to believe it was actually her. When I called them out (because it's really fucking weird), they kind of said it was just in good fun. I'm sure she'd agree 🙄

Ah yes it would perhaps rub her the wrong way…

That user did do a good job of being in character, I thought. They would reference something like “everybody has to see my new hit film…” in a way that was over-the-top enough for to come across as a joke to me.

Perhaps we can both at least give them kudos for providing us an early debate point on the fediverse impersonation conundrum!

it was definitely meant as a joke, it just wasn't funny. It's like saying those half-assed "characters" in Times Square are funny when in reality they're just a nuisance.

Given the nature of the fediverse...

[–] Klear@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

...it's easy to run into your own alt.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

ohh it's their username, I thought this was some technical stuff

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Ah yes that was the key info I was missing as well.
