Apple cases are shit. Good thing yours is still in warranty. Take it back and they’ll replace it immediately. Warranty is a year (I literally just replaced mine). Also AppleCare covers it, so even if you’re out of warranty for the case, if your phone is in warranty you can still get it replaced.

Or, you know, buy a better case from a more reputable company.

Yes I know what community this is and that I'll just get downvoted. But if it's accepted that you have to rely on warranty because the product is bad, then why the heck would one support that demonstrably bad product?

To cut costs!

I had an iPhone X with an Apple black leather case for 4 years and it was good, now I have the iPhone 14 with an Apple purple leather case for over a year and it’s mostly lost color and became black, but the integrity is ok.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ok sure, I don't disagree with that. Thanks for the honest answer.

[–] Nikls94@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But you’re right. A friend got the fine woven and it lasted 3 months.

Ouch. But yeah, I totally get it: if it's still cheaper to just replace it a lot, that's valid. Either people not buying it or people replacing it a lot (for free) should hypothetically have the same effect for Apple.

Edit: unless the cost of the Apple case up front is significantly higher than other options! In which case the math may not work out cleanly. And of course, the time taken for the warranty stuff = money.

Sorry I’m just saying that if you spent the crazy amount of money on the case, you probably want to get some use out of it before moving on to a different case. At least that’s what I thought. The Apple case is shit, but I’m going to keep taking it in for warranty if it keeps breaking at least until I’ve gotten like two years out of it.

Inside of EU it has to be 2 years.

I think between my family and I, we have purchased three Apple cases over the years. All three didn't survive their first year. Apple cases are a terrible investment. They are expensive, don't protect your screen, and aren't durable. They start to look like crap over time too.

I’ve been using mine since launch day and I’m amazed by how good it still looks. I thought it would age very poorly. I guess mileage varies.

[–] elboomy@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I’ve been using mine since launch and it looks fine, too, but I carry it in my pocket with no other items inside. OP says it’s their wife’s phone, so maybe she’s carrying it in her purse and other items significantly increase the wear?

[–] wall_inhabiter@lemdro.id 2 points 1 year ago

Fuck everything with a material that looks like that idk if it's an adhesive problem but the Surface keyboards like that are simply the worst

[–] androidul@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

wow! Is the case really that bad?

don’t take it wrong, did your wife do anything to the case or does it just turn like that under normal circumstances?

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I’ve got an Apple leather case from 2020 that’s still going. Edges are peeling, though, which started about a year ago max. Sounds like newer ones aren’t as good

[–] BigTrout75@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Duck tape would have worked better

My silicone case is about 1.5 years old and the corners are starting to peel. First and last Apple case for me. I think it was $70 (cad). I feel like I should email Tim to complain.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

The silicon case in the house is several months old and is already doing the same.

I have an Otterbox for my iPhone 12 Mini, after replacing the display of my old original iPhone SE three times after dropping it I decided to allways use a wallet case

[–] Nogami@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Mine is fine. I did spray it with scotchgard though.
