Nice collection, but is it as unplayed as my steam library?

I though i was weird having 2 thousand java games from the flip phone era (j2me games) installed on my phone. Well, It still is weird but at least it cost me nothing.

If anyone interested :

  • I use an emulator called j2me loader

  • The best resolution is 240x320, choose the sony Ericsson k800i varient or the Nokia 6xxx variants.

  • for touch choose 360x640. The phone variant doesn't matter.

  • some recommend games are : the doom rpg 1 and 2 , wolfenstein rpg, orc and elves 1 and 2, the impressive crash bandicoot games, any of digital chocolate, glue mobile games.

They're abondonware at this point really.

Did those work on s60 phones? I have a Nokia ngage that i sometimes boot up for fun.

Honestly, i don't know. I only ever had a Sony Ericsson w300i as a teen many years ago but i remember seeing the word s60 written on the file name of some .jar files.

You can always try downloading a game or two and trying to install them and as long as it's the correct resolution, they'd probably will work. The N-Gage had to, It didn't have much games made for it. ( not guaranteed tho)

I think the N-Gage games came in .sis format since there's a few big sized games ( as in beyond 5 mb and up to a 100mb or so since j2me games very rarely exceeded 2mb, the k800i varient being mostly the biggest in size and the best in terms of quality, visual and emulation on j2me loader).

There's a Symbian /N-Gage emulator for Android called eka2l1 but i never managed to make it work correctly.

If you want i can send you via direct message the websites i use to download these games. This post is on lemmy world and although the java games are mostly abondonware nowadays i don't want them to ban me for sharing a link that they may think is piracy.

Wow great collection! Do you have a favourite console and/or game?

Nice collection. Where did you get those Amiibo cases?

I'm endlessly fascinated by game room pics and tours :)

Do you find that you play physical systems still? I've mostly replaced all of mine with a MiSTer FGPA, and I don't really miss the overloaded power sockets and scart switchers. I still keep the games on display though, because sometimes I get just as much nostalgic buzz from looking at them as I do playing them.

Great collection! I'm really jealous of the colourful spines on Switch cases haha, where did you get those?

Get insurance on it! Remember that dude whose caught on fire?

[–] xyzzy@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Insurance companies aren't really equipped to do a separate policy on a video game collection, even a very valuable one. I've tried; mine's five figures, creeping closer to six. They can do coins for sure, perhaps stamps. Games are too new, though, so they don't have actuarial tables about them.

It is very important to catalog and photograph the individual items in your collection, though. You don't want to try to reconstruct what you had after things go wrong (I've also done this and it was miserable).

All you can really do is make sure the contents limit on your insurance is up to date and you have documentation of what you had. I had to do this with a guy once when I told him his renters policy had $10k of contents coverage. He then told me he had thousands of CDs and DVDs, mid to late 2000's, as he collected them. Updated that to ~$100k real quick.

Maybe you could get a company like Chubb, they have a history or writing strange and expensive things, to write a one off stated value policy but the cost would probably be prohibitive.

@yuunikki

Awesome! Where did you get those black wall display cases? I've been looking for something like that

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you order any hack roms at all? There's some great hacks out there for SNES games and other systems around that time.

[–] FinalBoy1975@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's a great collection! I'm sure it took a long time to accumulate all of that.
