In Texas they're just dying. No rain in over 60 days where I'm at, plus triple digit records being set weekly.

That's it.

Right there with you…brutal here
In Europe too. It already looked like fall in early August. It's because of the heat.
You mean fall?
Yes 🤦♂️
Trees drop their leaves whenever there is not enough water. This is often in winter, because they can't absorb ice. But any water shortage will do. If you are often in nature you may see warning signs such as rolling or folding of the leaves in an attempt to preserve water before the trees decide to just get rid of them early.
Hot wind kills the leaves
In Kentucky, the trees haven’t started turning yet, but some of our flowers have stopped blooming and started dropped their leaves.
southern alberta, trees are already turning colour here as well
Where at? I'm also in southern ab, but the trees around me seem to be fine.
high river, the one just down the block is starting to turn near the top, and by the creek behind the brewery, some of those have started too
I'm in NY and our burning bushes have started to start. I dunno what it is, but I agree it seems early.
I have a maple in my front yard that the leaves started turning brown in early July.
It seems weird, but I think getting hit by a truck mad it forget what month it was.

Getting hit by a truck might have made it forget to keep living. Brown leaves don't sound like a good sign.
Ohioan here, I agree. There's some starting to turn at the tops and it feels like it's at least 6 weeks early.
Aren't snakes also waking up early from hibernation in Australia this year?
Not in Seattle where I live, though some dandelions are already releasing their fuzz, spiders are already spinning webs on everything outdoors and I had to wear a mask one night to prevent inhaling the still lingering tree-cum of some species that wasn’t common in the suburb I grew up in (or my nose would’ve run and itched all night)
'Temperatures trigger fall colors A warming climate could be bad for fall foliage in years to come. As fall days grow shorter and temperatures drop, the chlorophyll in a leaf breaks down. That causes the leaf to lose its green color.' There are even YT videos on it, which are mildly interesting and also alarming.
Same in western Canada, started noticing it a few weeks ago
Not in my part of Virginia, but I assume this would be a pretty regional if it is happening
@PRUSSIA_x86@lemmy.world I don't know in Ohio, but I've heard® that when there is too little water or maybe too hot, trees start turning leaves red (maybe because it is an indicator for them that they are at the end of summer and fall is coming?)
Some trees lose leaves pretty early, like Locust and Black Walnut.
