In unearthed Facebook posts, Mark Robinson also called the civil rights movement “crap” and vowed to work on MLK Day because he’s “not a leach."

Martin Luther King Jr. was just an “ersatz pastor” and a “communist,” and the 1960s civil rights movement was “crap,” according to a series of Facebook posts by Mark Robinson, the leading Republican candidate to be North Carolina’s next governor.

Robinson, who is currently the state’s lieutenant governor, regularly criticized King and the civil rights movement for years on Facebook ― specifically on MLK Day ― HuffPost found amid a review of his posts. The Black politician also downplayed slavery, rejected the idea that he’s part of the African American community, and attacked the late congressman and civil rights icon, John Lewis.

These posts are surfacing at a time when Robinson, who is on track to be the GOP nominee for governor in November, has been trying to soften his rhetoric, and celebrate King and the civil rights movement.

This man has declared bankruptcy FOUR TIMES. He has been under investigation for the past two years because he used campaign donations to pay off personal debt, among other things.

He shouldn't be anywhere near running a state or in charge of any budget, near a budget, or even be allowed to see a budget.

He has also praised Hitler on social media.

Oh, and he misspelled the word 'leach' (leech) in his post because WHY WOULD WE NEED PEOPLE RUNNING THE GOVERNMENT WHO CAN ACTUALLY SPELL SIMPLE FUCKING WORDS like a third grader could.

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 56 points 9 months ago

What always blows my mind the most is how these people see no issue with filing for bankruptcy (sometimes multiple times), but are against "handouts" like social security and unemployment that people pay into and are earned benefits. The same people that grumbled about "nobody wants to work", but then stole thousands of dollars in COVID relief money they had no right to.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like a guy Trump would like.

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

Or at least someone he'd pretend to like as much as he's ever pretended to like someone who is not white.

[–] ZOSTED@sh.itjust.works 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He has also praised Hitler on social media.

Fucking what???

[–] silverbax@lemmy.world 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yes, one of his GOP opponents is running ads right now in North Carolina pointing this out.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Huh, I could see a Democrat opponent successfully pointing that shit out in the general election, but in the GOP primary that would probably make more people vote for Robinson.

[–] d00phy@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Sounds like a fine US Conservative political candidate!

[–] fidodo@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I can forgive minor spelling mistakes. It's easy enough to misplace a finger while typing. That doesn't mean they think it's spelled that way. But everything else you pointed out is more than bad enough.

[–] silverbax@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I would forgive it, if he didn't misspell words in everything he posts and wasn't running for Governor of a U.S. state. None of the other candidates misspell words in their posts, ever.

Get it right, motherfucker. He was a socialist. And he was right.

[–] the_q@lemmy.world 100 points 9 months ago

Hmm... I wonder if Mark Robinson would be able to run for governor if not for MLK. Guess will never know...

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 64 points 9 months ago (1 children)

White, black, woman, man, gay, straight: It's like upon joining the Republican Party, people are compelled to be grossly wrong on every single issue...

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

Uh, a lot like that, yeah.

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 54 points 9 months ago

Fat Kanye said what?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 54 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Huh, that's exactly what cons said way back when MLK was still alive - that he was a Communist.

[–] MaxVoltage@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

He was a party member like me

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 40 points 9 months ago

Real life Clayton Bigsby right here.

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 35 points 9 months ago

“Republican”

That’s all you need to say.

[–] Tronn4@lemmy.world 34 points 9 months ago

Kanyes mentor

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 33 points 9 months ago

He knows its gonna be hard as fuck to get elected republican while black so he has to go out of his way to make it clear he hates black people.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 31 points 9 months ago

Real classy. Still, on par with the current state of the Republican Party.

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 29 points 9 months ago

"vowed to work on MLK Day because he’s “not a leach.""

I just can't stop laughing at this.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 27 points 9 months ago

rejected the idea that he’s part of the African American community

Whatever is going on here is definitely a "him" thing.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago (3 children)

It's the term" Uncle Tom," offensive. Because he's definitely fitting that description. I remember learning it from social studies in reference to Uncle Tom's Cabin.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 9 points 9 months ago

Yes, it's offensive.

Also definitely fitting and deserved in this case.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I like Uncle Ruckus as the more contemporary version. "Martin, I'da shot you myself, but white folk got better aim."

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

God he's such an amazingly written character. "I got revitilago, each year I get blacker dahker,". Also everyone knows who he is.

[–] pinkdrunkenelephants@lemmy.cafe 7 points 9 months ago (2 children)

The polite term we of the melanated tonage have for him is "house slave", the accurate one using language we shall not mention in polite company

The Governor then added "And his shoes were wack too!"

[–] TellusChaosovich@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Hehe are you referencing the Boondocks episode? I happened to watch that just a few days ago, and it was brilliant.

[–] snekerpimp@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

“Vote Uncle Ruckus for governor”

[–] xor@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

i like how his goatee shows where his chin would be, if he had one...

[–] negativeyoda@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago (7 children)

Ahh, the George Lucas

I think he chose a goatee to highlight the pursed lower lip indicating simmering hatred that all reactionaries tend to nurture

It's certainly highlighting the formation of a second chin.

We're still going with the red scare? I'm from Central America, and the same Americans who glassed my homeland to keep Russians out of the western hemisphere, now suck Putin's dick.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Wow. I mean, just. Damn, dude.

[–] heavy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 months ago

Damn, why you gotta be angry, uncle?

[–] FriendBesto@lemmy.ml 5 points 9 months ago

He is allowed to have his opinion, of course.

Not a very smart thing to say, given people's take on MLK. Guess he peaked the day before he said this. Specially near MLK Day. Just... Wow.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 4 points 9 months ago

Well, he was half right about one thing.

[–] MonsiuerPatEBrown@reddthat.com 2 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Yah know I had a black american cop poison my dog in my yard exactly one year ago today.

leaves me conflicted on this day.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Conflicted? That would leave me as an arsonist at the very least.
