Why is the police even involved in this. Unless the book in question is banned by law, or at least a court order, then there's no reason for the police to be involved.
This is one more case of the police overstepping their authority.
The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.
99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.
When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.
When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."
When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.
Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.
The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.
All this is a path to a police state.
In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.
Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.
That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES
① Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.
② If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.
③ Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.
④ Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

If the book is banned by law and this is how the police are triaging what they need to do to fight crime in Massachusetts, I hope the tax payers are getting their pitchforks out.
But police don't fight crime. That's not their job
Yeah for sure, the Supreme Court held that cops have no duty to protect citizens. Why do we still have them?
This is one more case of the police being police.
Fixed it for u
Fire this dude. This isn't protecting and serving, this is abuse.
Officer Joseph O’Brien.
Ensure we use his name.
O man, gonna need a date of birth or social or something. Doubt this is the only Joe Obrien on the MA police force.
Luckily the odds are they all deserve to be fired, so don’t need to worry too much
Pretty sure Protect and Serve was made up for TV.
Cop and chief are wiping their asses with the First Amendment, they are obviously Trumpers trying to own the libs. Losers.
Republicans sure do love creating the nanny/police state that they accused Democrats of wanting to create through… (checks notes) public health measures like temporarily wearing masks to protect against a global pandemic. And Republicans are doing it all over a non-existent problem (or at least their claimed reason for doing it).
The school is trying to be helpful and do whatever is necessary to molify the cop, which is understandable. However, the school's best bet, once they became aware of the cop's intentions, would have been to whip out their phone cameras, refuse to answer questions, and refer him to the school board's lawyer. What's the cop going to do? He either has to leave and try to get a warrant, or he can double-down on a school-wide search, on camera, and look like an even bigger jackass.
Like everyone else, schools should remember to Shut The Fuck Up (tm).
Every day is Shut the Fuck Up Friday
But what if the cop keeps asking questions?
You shut the fuck up
But what if they put the cuffs on you?
you shut the fuck up with cuffs on.
And if they take me to the station?
You shut the fuck up and lawyer the fuck up
You know, I think I get it now. That's a good tip. Seems like something worth reviewing from time to time.
It's strange seeing schools being raided for books
This is what the beginnings of a fascist dictatorship look like. We're only a few bad elections from it becoming a reality.
This response is so important, a few bad elections locally are leading to these types of interactions. We have paid so much attention to national issues (rightfully) that we missed the LOCAL religious fascists at the door. We are on the verge of some very dark times unless a systemic understanding and change of state and local politics takes place quickly.
It’s not strange if you paid attention during history lessons about Germany during the time just before WW2
Good point, we should ban those history books as well.
So he's a fascist
As are most cops.
ACAB
The rest are too.
on top of doing nazi shit - in the 7 or so minutes he was covering his camera, he only uncovers it for the second or two that the teacher bends over in front of him. what a scum fuck
Neat. history in Real life. Kids .. these are Gestapo. They are going to ensure you think only approved thoughts.
(413) 528-0306 Let them know they have a Nazi problem.
What a free country
To bad there wasn't a School Shooter killing all the kids. Then the cops would have left everyone alone!
A real extensional threat for this guy.
He would be really popular in prison. He'd make a good Fifi, too.
