Peace was generally secured by worldwide empires (for the known world of the time periods). Ex: Babylon, Rome, Mongolia, Spanish, Britain and today USA.

Today, we have free religion, freedom (no slaves), more luxurious goods at cheaper prices, education, high literacy, a lack of infantile deaths due to the advancements of medicine and more.

I certainly prefer today vs Roman times or even Spanish Peace or Pax Britannia.

Of Pax Americana, today is certainly better than the Cold War, WW2 or other times as well.

To those in the Middle East, they look back upon the peace established by the Muslim Caliphates like the Ottoman Empire or whatnot. So it does depend on where you live.

Sure, more people experience peace. But the violence and conflict has not gotten any milder for those who are subjected to it. I don't find it useful to claim we live in the most peaceful time when there are multiple unjustifiable wars going on all over the world, and the people who enjoy peace largely do so at the expense of those who suffer.

Tell that to those that are suffering.
