Hello fellow Bloom County fans!

About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.

Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America, where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk. On July 12, 2015, Breathed started drawing Bloom County again. The first revived strip was published via Facebook on July 13, 2015... Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_County

The song U Stink But I Love U was written by Mucky Pup and they made a video..

I saw these guys back in '89 at a shit hole Jersey Shore club, and some asshole stole the spark plug wires out of my car during the show.

Not a Böingers song but “Scuzzbucket from Nantucket” was pretty bitchen.

Memory unlocked! I totally had this as a kid and completely forgot about it until now!

I think I even remember some of the lyrics maybe. Something like:

"I hate the way you act and I hate the way you smell. I hate the way you look cuz you just look like hell!" ?

Thanks for the blast from the past!

Bootleg was the first Book County book I owned, the rest I had borrowed from a friend. That vinyl was amazing, sadly mine was misplaced.

There's a throwback. I had that way back in the day myself.

Hey I don't know what bloom county or anything else is, but I looked up I'm a Boinger and that shit rocks.

It's the comic Opus the Penguin is from, if you're familiar with him.

I am not, unfortunately.

Is this music based on the comic or something? Or, like, from the comic?

[–] nocturne213@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It is supposed to be music by Billy and the Boingers, formerly known as Dëäthtöngüë (I forget where the umlauts go, so they all get them).

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Right, I got that from the band name; I just didn't know if this was a, like, real band, or a band that someone started to parody a band from the comic, or a band that someone formed to pay homage to the comic, etc.

So it's just some band?

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It's the band in the strip. The had a real band do these songs.

In the strip they were poking fun at heavy metal bands like Judas Priest, and the infamous Tipper Gore hearings.

Oh geez, how did I forget that? Thanks!

You're welcome!

Oooook gotcha gotcha gotcha. I understand completely.

Damn, I gotta get into bloom county.

Never a better time now that the community owner is posting them in real time. I've got all the books but I'm still planning on following along in syndication pacing.

One of my favorite words is Diagetic. The music is part of the universe you're observing.
I think this isn't quite the same as that, since it's music that is coming out of the universe, and intended to be representative of something inside, but it's at least related.
Like the musical notation at the end of a Charles de Lint novel. Emergent diagesis.

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Once you said diagetic, I knew just what you meant. Music that exists within the realm of the comic that has been "recreated" in our world? Excellent.

[–] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

It's a rock band of rebels with a death tuba section, from Bloom County. In the universe of the comic, they go on tour and Bill destroys a motel room. They do their best to imitate the greats. They are the vanguard of culture. Thanx for the groovy gams!
