By most accounts, Speaker Mike Johnson inherited a House Republican majority in disarray after the sudden ouster of his predecessor last month.

But as Johnson, R-La., tries to rebuild that slim majority, he’s fast running into the same hard-right factions and divisions that Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was unable to tame. That’s disrupting the party’s agenda, shelving priorities and leaving gnawing questions about any leader’s ability to govern.

Would Speaker Johnson not say that this is God’s will?

[–] teft@startrek.website 59 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why doesn't he pray to his god for his situation to improve? I thought that's how that works for them?

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago

It doesn't work if you just pray. You also have to insult the gays and punish the poor so that God will be happier and more likely to grant your three wishes. Then he can finally become a real boy!

But sometimes gods work in mysterious ways...or that's what they say when bad things happen.

[–] potterpockets@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No no no. God’s will only applies to things Republicans like. Like Trump, the Bushes, etc. Anything that they dont like like the Clintons, Obama, etc. are clearly the work of THE DEVIL, and need to be eradicated with prejudice (something they are well known for).

Weird how that works isn’t it? 🤔

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean - they don’t like the Bushes.

[–] torknorggren@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Please clap.

Seems to me this is simply God punishing Johnson because he isn’t doing well enough with his porn struggles.

What I don’t get is why god isn’t taking it out on his son instead? It’s the kids responsibility, the whole nation knows it so why doesn’t the big man upstairs?

They want to break the government. They don't care about our country's future or how many people are hurt by it. Why is this so hard for some people to understand!? They're not *even trying to be subtle about it any more!

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dysfunction is a feature of the Republican Party. Their entire political platform is to prove that government doesn't work, so they do their darndest to flush it down the toilet every time they get the chance.

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Nah, they have other goals too, like harming minorities and enriching the wealthy.

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 11 points 1 year ago

TBH, I think Johnson wants to rule. He has a divine mandate from his god to create Christendom 2.0. It's the rest of the GOP that doesn't give a shit, because they do their little culture war song and dance, and their followers think they've done something constructive.

Mike Johnson just exudes creep vibes in this picture. Is that just how he looks all the time. Or is he just bad at taking photos?

He is creepy. He said that he has a phone app that he uses with his son to stop them both from watching gay porno. He is a fucking creepy piece of shit.

Like his suit is the only thing keeping all manner of pure evil from bursting forth and wriggling all over the podium?

Yes, very creepy vibes.

[–] burntbutterbiscuits@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At least it’s not a brown suit dotdot dot I think we can judge him on his outspoken policy positions without saying his suit is creepy

Okay Siri delete post they are right about the post

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's a nice suit! It's what's inside that counts though.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Oh no. Anyways..
