Whenever you learn a fun word in a language you speak natively or fluently, share it here! I personally will be posting only English words for now, but other languages are welcome if anybody else wants to contribute!

If you want to share a word, please provide the word, the definition and the context in which you found it. That way we can see the word in use.

Puissant (ttrpg.network)

Today I learned the word Puissant!

adjective: puissant

having great power or influence.

//

The context was "Some of us have more and more puissant sweat glands than others."

Usually used to refer to somebody like a king, or somebody with great power in a community, I like the use of it here too! The word seems to be pretty archaic but it still seems fun to use!

"Puissant" is the French word for "powerful".

Cool! I like when french words sneak their way in to English. Our language is such a hodgepodge of other languages anyways, but the French based ones are frequently more fun to use/say. No clue why.

Puissance can also be used for powers of ten - e.g. 5000 is "cinq a puissance trois"
