We’d settle for straight up feudalism at this point. Serfs had guaranteed jobs, housing, food, and a decent amount of time off.
I wouldn't mind being part of a work crew building a futuristic ray gun aimed at destroying a planet 30 light years away that I know nothing about.
At least I'd get lunch right? .... Right?
If we ever found intelligent aliens, some of us would absolutely try to convert them to christianity, and there are already plans to exploit planetoids for their resources. We are the alien invaders, sans space travel.
We'd probably at least be closer to tech breakthroughs like space travel if it wasn't for religious and capitalist shit holding us back
At the very least we'd feel less need to leave our current planet.
Think of it other way around, its due to people like them that we want to leave the planet early

Also, no need to invade when we're content to destroy ourselves.
Almost every star has a planetary system or at least asteroid rings. There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone. If any civilization has mastered FTL travel, there is literally unlimited free real estate everywhere and thus no need for wars. Simply hop to another star system.

Oh this is basically the plot to the Damned Trilogy. Awesome Sci fi, highly recommend. It's a bit hard to read at first because it's often also from the perspectives of the aliens
