Well, this should be no surprise.

She's been bending over backwards for Trump since day one, and she's spent this entire time dragging her feet on even the most basic of issues. She created delay after delay, and is now using the delay she created as the justification for granting the postponement that Trump has been seeking all along.

"Mid November." What a god damned coincidence. The rotting corpse of Hellen Keller could have seen right through that load of bullshit.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago

Is there anyway they can throw her out or do something about this cunts corruption? Seriously we going allow her to keep this from proceeding until she is sure he is President and can pardon himself.

[–] AshMan85@lemmy.world 116 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's cause cannon is corrupt

[–] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 114 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I like how they say it needs to be delayed because he’s campaigning. Fuck that. Crimes come first.

[–] RvTV95XBeo@sh.itjust.works 69 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, sorry I won't be able to pay that speeding ticket right now, I'm campaigning.

Oh, when will I be done? I suppose when the Galactic Council finally holds the vote to appoint me Supreme Galactic Overlord. Until then!

[–] Riccosuave@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

NO FAIR, THAT'S THE POSITION I WANTED!!!

[–] PK2@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Position already taken

[–] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Settle down there, Palpatine.

[–] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My guess is she'll grant a delay but won't cite his campaigning because she knows that won't fly with appellate judges.

She'll have enough other bullshit justifications to give Trump what he wants and get her kickback.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (3 children)

My understanding is that scheduling delays are not appealable, at least not by the prosecution. Judges have the right to set their own schedules.

She just doesn't want to look blatantly corrupt if and when anything does go to appeal though. She's doing her best to postpone this trial indefinitely while still maintaining something resembling plausible impartiality. I'm sure that when "Mid November 2024" comes around, she'll suddenly have another reason to delay because Trump will then be appealing the results of the election about 47 times, and heaven forbid her case interfere with that and after all that he's gonna need more time to prepare. So, January 2026 then? What? He'll be too old and suffering from dementia and therefore isn't competent to stand trial, even though he still appears on TV every day? Darn. I guess she'll just have to postpone this trial indefinitely. It's too bad......the people deserved to hear the truth, but whatever was she to do? The situation was completely unavoidable!!!

She’s doing her best to postpone this trial indefinitely while still maintaining something resembling plausible impartiality

No chance in Hell of that. She's going for blatantly implausible impartiality, at best.

The way she's acting, she might as well be thumbing her nose at everyone who isn't a fucking MAGA traitor and yelling "neener neener neener, you can't stop me!"

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

She's already been slapped down before for this case, couldn't that same authority do so again?

🤔 I wonder what was on those documents that the rest of the government is allowing this to happen to keep quiet.

I wonder for example if Trump dug up papers with nuclear secrets and tried to sell them. Ooh, or UFOs.

[–] BeefPiano@lemmy.world 82 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Without reading the article, I’m betting it’s Judge Cannon.

Edit: yup

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's absofuckinglutley infuriating that this can be the case. It was the same with me too. Didn't even have to open the article to know it was that fucking stooge.

How the hell can we pretend we have a fair judicial system when we can call how a judge will act simply by knowing who she is... Not knowing the facts of the case as they don't matter, but simply knowing it's "her" gives us all the information we need to know she's going to fight for Trump however she can...

Impartial my ass.

[–] zeppo@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago

Of course she did. We knew as soon as this judge was assigned the case that she was going to try to wreck it, like she did the last one.

[–] spaceghoti@lemmy.one 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Has there been a more incompetent, political judge to ever sit on the bench? I can't imagine how.

[–] overzeetop@lemmy.world 65 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Clarance Thomas: “Am I a joke to you?”

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 6 points 1 year ago

Yes, yes you are.

[–] Uniquitous@lemmy.one 36 points 1 year ago

This corrupt idiot has no business being a judge. But whatever, she's a sideshow. He's fucked in NY and GA. If she wants to make her name synonymous with "bought and paid for stooge" in a vain attempt to shield the orange idiot from the consequences of his own actions, let her.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago

Justice delayed is justice denied.

WHERE’S THE UNREDACTED MUELLER REPORT. MERRICK!

?$%#$&*!!

[–] ghostdoggtv@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

The people have a right to a speedy trial too.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Is there any way to get this judge removed?

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Seems like she's trying to avoid a mistrial due to the incompetence of the defense team.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The federal judge overseeing Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago document-mishandling case cast doubt on the viability having a trial in May 2024, signaling she may postpone the criminal proceedings.

Cannon told Justice Department prosecutor Jay Bratt, who asked to keep the trial schedule as is: “I’m not seeing in your position a level of understanding to these realities.”

“After four months of delay, we were allowed to review for the first time documents that are critical to some of the serious felony charges” that special counsel Jack Smith has filed, Trump’s lawyers wrote to the court two weeks ago.

The classified records indictment has loomed over Trump’s candidacy particularly because of the questions it’s raised – with substantial known witnesses and even audio evidence – about how casually Trump treated national security information that could damage the United States if accessed at his club and about his unwillingness after his presidency to comply with regulations around presidential records.

In a filing last week, prosecutors told the judge Trump’s team has cried wolf about their access to evidence in the case, including classified records.

Trump’s legal team has been reviewing and discussing classified evidence in Miami, most recently on Tuesday, when the former president joined his lawyers in the SCIF during the afternoon, according to a source familiar with the matter.
