Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The Narcissist's Prayer:

“That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.”

PS I never knew them, they aren't my type, and they aren't pretty enough.

Because they agree he lost a free and fair election right?

Right?

Germany 1930s. VOTE against these fuckers.

Majority of republicans are religious idiots. If you believe in imaginary friends that give you sky cake, then you can believe literally anything.

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 49 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't mistake bad faith arguments with beliefs.

They believe in acquiring power in any way necessary. For most, that means pandering to their constituents, which means saber rattling for MAGA.

Just like you can't take the religious right for their "beliefs" either. They are just exploiting a rabid easily rallied base.

Nothing tells me someone has a very specific bone to pick more than jumping to blaming the Republicans on Christianity. It's putting the cart before the horse, and taking too much of what they say at face value. Remembering, of course, they're all pathological liars.

It's kind of depressing to know even some people on the left haven't figured out yet who these fuckers actually are. Religion is not at their core, nor is conservativism, not even nationalism. Those are all just addons.

It's pure, uncut selfishness, greed, and hate. All other belief systems are erected on top of that as needed, and often interchangeably.

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

This is mostly true. What major bills did Republicans pass under Trump? Tax cuts for the rich. It's always tax cuts for the rich. That's their religion.

[–] hanekam@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It is a core feature of most religions that

  1. There are hidden forces at work in the world
  2. The workings of these hidden forces are more important than the processes we can see, and follow a grand plan

This belief is strikingly similar to conspiratorial worldviews, and the likelihood of subscribing to QAnon and other conspiracy theories rises substantially with increasing religiosity.

They're not the same thing, but they are definitely related

Ugh. Just serve the Flavor Aid already and end this ongoing nightmare.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What it must be like to be a cult leader in broad daylight. All these other cults have to keep shit under wraps. These guys just flaunt their immorality.

[–] Zhao@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Scientology would like a word.

What they all believe is so inconsistent across the spectrum of conservatives anyway - it was Antifa! It was the deep state! It was mostly peaceful tourists!

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I've heard those contradictions spouted by single people on multiple occasions - whether they're lying, morons, or both, they're a danger.

[–] Linuto@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Not sure about the country as a whole, but at least in my experience the republicans I know would never have said they thought he tried to begin with. Usually they see the capital riots as something beyond what Trump was expecting, as untrue as that has come been shown to be.

[–] 4lan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

My father still thinks the insurrection was just a handful of people waving flags outside the Capitol. They never got the story because they are hooked on Fox news

[–] bquintb@midwest.social 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

I think jailing the Orange Menace will snap a lot of them out of it. A few will probably be ballsy enough to take some kind of action, but they'll be the minority and look like thugs. It just sucks that people are probably going to get hurt over this. I say just let the justice system do its thing.

[–] spaceghoti@lemmy.one 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Let's hope so. Some are threatening civil war if he's convicted and sent to prison, but then again, we're also talking about Snack Team 6. So I don't assume there's any bite behind that bark. I just know that after January 6th, they're absolutely going to try again.

[–] root_beer@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Meal Team [January] 6, you mean? But going by how the insurrection went, I see an attempt at repeating something like that going over like a lead balloon. On the other hand, I can absolutely see a significant spike in domestic terror happening

This reality is absurd enough that there's a very real possibility he starts claiming the sun isn't real and we'll have actual arguments about whether the sun exists or whether it's Space Jew Democrats that are trying to confuse us...

[–] BeautifulMind@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Majority of Republicans now insist Trump never tried to overturn election

Of course they insist that- they were involved then and don't want consequences now

[–] Im14abeer@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're going to have to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, it's not like most of them had a front row seat to an insurrection or something.

[–] spaceghoti@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago

Right? It certainly wasn't being broadcast on every news station for weeks.
