Empty tinpot club

[–] Daan100@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Damn city really doesn’t have any legends

[–] JarodMMS@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't get this, i don't care about City really but you people used to moan about the club not having history, but now that it's being written as we speak, it doesn't count because, what, it didn't happen 80 years ago? I'd say sticking around for a decade and captaining the team into a treble is pretty much worthy of this kind of recognizement

The Kevin Gundo Silva field.

[–] Fuzzy-Topic-2684@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

People jumping the gun here. It’s a nice tribute to begin with. For all we know, he’ll receive a bigger tribute in years to come. Napoli didn’t change the name of their stadium until Maradona died. It’s always a risk paying tribute to someone in any profession to a large scale before they’ve passed incase they do something absolutely insane like murder, sexual assault, etc. Not saying Gundogan will because he seems like a decent man but other players have.

tinpot club. arsenal built a statue for wenger, who the club is names after, just this year

[–] Round-Ad5063@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Question for United fans, how many players from the 99 treble side are legends for you? Does half sound about right

[–] FuckThisChat81816@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

United haven’t named any of their toilet cubicles after Jesper Blomqvist though.

[–] EdWoodwardsPA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Rent free. On a thread about your own legend all you can talk about is United.

This comment thread is top tier. Almost up there with the time city donated all those AED machines

[–] SmartestUtdFan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] FREE_BOBBY-SHMURDA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Such a tinpot club absolutely gagging to honour their players as soon as oossible to add culture and relevancy

[–] Salami_Lozenges@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How do I get there from the Fabian Delph parking garage or the Scott Sinclair memorial bench?

[–] PM_ME_SOME_LUV@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What about Benjani?

[–] DepletedMitochondria@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Really thrived under Pep, incredible player

[–] Any_Smell_5431@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This gives me the same vibes of when Gundo got injured and his teammates had shirts on with his face like he passed on lmao

[–] B-e-a-utiful_day@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah this is the same, like… as tribute? The guy is still alive. I thought he died the first time I saw it!

So much history this club lol

[–] Ohtar1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Weird to do this to a player who is still active in Europe and you can still play against.

[–] Jon98th@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s a flex .. City is 100% confident should they face Barça they would trash them

[–] rim261@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bold of you to assume we make it out of round 16

[–] Call_me_Tetsuo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's a training pitch, it's not too big a deal. City built Aguero and Silva statues while they were acting players, now THAT was weird.

[–] boi61@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)
[–] Ohtar1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

There a lot of things that can happen that could make him not be loved by the fans any more. He could score in a final and make them lose a trophy, he could injure your best player I don't know

[–] Themnor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He could go play in a country that preaches hate and murders journalists and masterminds/funds terrorist attacks in order to get paid to say they’re not sportswashing while saying he didn’t do it for the money…

[–] boi61@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't think any of that would change what he did for City or how he is viewed by the club. I actually like that they honor their legends right after the leave the club instead of doing it 10 years later.

[–] pacman1993@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not sure if it was Robben or Ibra, but their first club destroyed the statue they had of him, because he bought a stake at the rival club

[–] TheJoshider10@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Also it's not that deep, if Gundogan did something to piss off City then they would just remove the dedication. He won't, but it's not a big deal if it did come to that.

[–] TheHalfwayHouses@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Perfect way to describe it is not that deep - if you've got strong feelings about this you need help

[–] Vahald@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because its embarrassing

[–] momspaghetty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's just a training ground, not really that weird if you ask me

Serious Question: Who are City's legends from before the Qatar takeover?

[–] DesertRL@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Qatar

UAE*

Franny Lee, Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee, Bert Trautmann, Frank Swift, Peter Doherty (though this is arguable as his city career was massively cut short by WWII, but he was still fantastic for the time he played for us), Alan Oakes, Billy Meredith, Neil Young (not that Neil Young), Eric Brook

[–] b-okoboko@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Trautmann, I remember that name from somewhere. Is that not the guy who played with a broken neck?

[–] pinkguyfriedrice@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Richard Dunne should be feeling aggrieved.

[–] Xpolonia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Their first CL win is a historical milestone for them and Gündoğan happened to be the captain, it makes sense to me that it has significance to City and they wanted to honor this.

It's also not like they renamed the Etihad to the Gündoğan stadium (I don't mind that tho). They certainly have more than one training pitch so I don't see the reason to overreact over this.

[–] EdWoodwardsPA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's the city of Manchester stadium. Etihad is the 'sponsor's' name.

[–] GameplayerStu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

I for one can't wait for the Erling Haaland Centre for Kids Who Can't Score Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too.

[–] ScottiApso@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Why would City make a training centre for United?

[–] LangyLangLang69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Their owners said they wanted to develop manchester when they took over. Might as well fix Old Trafford as well.

[–] Random0cassions@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hey, at least make sure the centre is outdated has leaky roofing than that’s a proper United investment

[–] ElectricalMud2850@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"Erling, the files are IN the computer"

[–] longcao@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The sequel of that movie is terrible but has some good jokes.

[–] Megleeker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What is this? The Erling Haaland Centre for Kids Who Can't Score Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too, for ants??

[–] TheCulturalBomb@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] JohnDavidsBooty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

City vs Barcelona in the CL knockouts is gonna be awkward

[–] Subscrobbler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why would it be awkward? It’d be nice seeing him at the etihad again

[–] ISD1982@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gundogan, but never forgotten.

It's a training pitch, not a statue guys. They already have multiple training pitches already. It's a nice little tribute to a player who contributed to the club for 7 years.
