How the fuck have we gotten to the point where pretty much any group with Liberty, Patriot, Freedom, etc in the name is straight-up fascist?

Furthermore, how the fuck can these groups claim to be pro-freedom while banning books, abortions, trans people, etc?

WE. ARE. FUCKED.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 52 points 11 months ago

Also anything like “Americans for _” is probably an astroturf group of a few rich fucks

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.world 47 points 11 months ago (2 children)

They've always done that: the Nazis were not the least bit socialist. Just pull words that poll well and make it up from there.

Please support the Christian Peace Freedom Society! Send money and impressionable youths.

There actually were social wings in the NSDAP before the 1930s, but they have been eradicated and only the name remained.

I mean, we did lean pretty heavily into jingoism, nationalism and anti-intellectualism for, like, the last 70-80y. As a consequence we've trained several generations of people to respect symbols more than the ideas that define our country. So uh, yeah, this is pretty much the expected outcome.

Nothing says Liberty like banning books!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 46 points 11 months ago (3 children)

They are fascist and should be labeled a Hate group and banned.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Banned is letting them off easy

[–] RojoSanIchiban@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Since when does the US ban hate groups?

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 6 points 11 months ago

Dunno. But they would be a good starting point.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

For them Liberty means chaining others.

[–] pseudorandom@kbin.social 42 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Under fund, remove education material, add your own, and declare public education a failure and you can have taxes pay for private education.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 25 points 11 months ago

Religious private education.

[–] spider@lemmy.nz 9 points 11 months ago

Florida school vouchers can pay for TVs, kayaks and theme parks. Is that OK?

Wait, they straight up just put a Hitler quote on their web page? I thought they were slightly more subtle than that.

Edit: It's a newsletter, but still...

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

Moms for Liberty will not be intimidated by hate groups…. Expect for the guy we quoted above. He’s cool.

[–] ZeroCool@feddit.ch 38 points 11 months ago

Carl Kalauokalani has no children, no background in education and no experience in political or community organizing. Yet a year ago, the San Jose resident started the Santa Clara County chapter of Moms for Liberty, the far-right “parental rights” group stoking the nation’s red-hot culture wars.

Reminds me of that picture showing the "Black Republican Committee" of Durham County, North Carolina.
