I noticed a good amount of people talking about Al Jazeera in the BBC paywall thread and that make me ask, why!?

This really rises to the level of an interrobang?

First off, the "BBC paywall thread" didn't occur on Beehaw, so you're just confusing users here.

Al-Jazeera has a consistent history of objective journalism that covers topics Western sources don't -- or from an angle they're unwilling to explore. That's it. No conspiracy, no mystery. Objective news is objective news, regardless of whether you happen to like the name or the framing they start from.

Millions of people consider Fox News "journalism" when it simply isn't. Al-Jazeera is. So, to answer the title question: because it is. Whether you like that or disagree because it's a little too Muslim for you changes nothing about the empirical evidence of their coverage.

I love this sentence. Speak truth to power.

Because it is. It’s more or less the only news source in the world that combines solid journalistic integrity, a well-funded operation, and a non-Western perspective. Most of the well funded serious journalism in the world is Western (and by default sort of coming from at least a mildly “gives Israel the benefit of the doubt” perspective for example), and a lot of the non-Western press isn’t as well funded or skilled. Al Jazeera is pretty much the only one that doesn’t suffer from either defect.

because western media--at least on the issue of Palestine--is almost entirely biased toward Israel, Israel's right to exist without change to its apartheid and oppression of Palestinians, and the legitimacy of Zionism as an ideology; Al Jazeera obviously is not, and is far more willing to cover what Israel is doing without attempting to justify it, explain it away, or downplay it

Every news outlet has bias.

Just because it's not your bias, doesn't make it not news.
