I am involved with a youth organization with my kids. We’re a very diverse group and so several of my kids friends are very precarious right now. I know at least one who carries 5 forms of ID everywhere outside of his house.

Monsters are running this country,

My daycare closed for a day so they could get their passports "just in case". This shit is infuriating.

rule number 1 on this sub needs to get fucked.

1/4 is like 85 million people. some people are saying they aren't concerned since they're citizens but given what Trump has done, that can be stripped away at literally any moment

[–] hansolo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 36 minutes ago

Meanwhile, I'm concerned about actual citizens being deported.

I have a some very close friends who are Venezuelan. They all claim they aren't worried because they are citizens, but I'm not so sure. The MAGA Nazis don't respect Birthright Citizenship, they certainly aren't going to respect naturalization.

Bottom line: If you were born somewhere else, they want you gone.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

If that’s the bottom line, the fine print is that the elected American government wants you gone if you aren’t white. They don’t need to work on that layer yet.

Donald Trump could use the N-word on TV tomorrow and it would be accepted.

Hispanic people voting for Trump in 2024 will go down in history as the modern equivalent of the historical "Jews for Hitler" movement.

ICE has deported at least 70 US citizens (Source) The actual number could be wayyyy higher though

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 37 minutes ago

That was just from Trump's first term. Fuck.

I left because I knew they'd be coming for me sooner rather than later. I'm a trans immigrant. I honestly kinda regret my citizenship because it's keeping me chained to the reich even from abroad.

And birthright citizenship is under attack too.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 5 points 6 hours ago

A cousin and a friend. Yeah, it crosses my mind.

Every time I hear sirens, I feel scare af, thinking its the gestapo.

I'm a naturalized citizen btw, but I still don't feel safe (I'm not white).

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago

I'm white AF, and my family has been here since the 1650s on one side, and 1720s on the other side. We literally funded a decent portion of the revolution. I'm still scared. They are coming for everyone that isn't them.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Don't worry, they won't arrive in uniforms with sirens. They'll arrive silently in masks.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 13 points 11 hours ago

Hell, even birthright citizens aren't safe if they are perceived as non-white.

[–] weremacaque@sh.itjust.works 15 points 12 hours ago

I have a friend from the Philippines who is in school to be a nurse. When this started, she was scared this was going to affect students which did end up being true later.
