Why though?
We can just subscribe to the community on lemmy.ml, there's no point reposting when it's already there ready to federate.
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

.ml sucks
amen
Wait what did they do? I'm new
the mods who run it (and also created the lemmy software which makes this whole thing more complex) love stalin and mao (theres a reason why its Lemmy.ml and not .com, the ml stands for marxist-leninist) and putin and often silence opinions they disagree with on their platform. They use their instance to spread their propaganda about authoritarism and communism and while their aren't the only instance to do that, the other ones weren't run by the Lemmy devs, so other instances defederated from them - I'm talking about places like hexbear and lemmygrad
theres people who've been on Lemmy longer than me and have spent time documenting some of the more insane mod actions and views of the .ml admins and Im gunna go find that right now
edit: ok I found it, here's a list of stuff the admins there have done: https://lemmy.world/post/29072279 and here's the community about documenting stuff I got the post from https://lemmy.world/c/meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works
posting these as .world links because .ml has blocked them (which of course they did) so I don't then you can sub to that comm from your account
Thanks for the links
no problem!
Created Lemmy.
This has made a lot of people angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
Those bastards!
They were to the left of netanyahu. centrists don't like that.
.ml is the third instance that centrists have a problem with. When their constant whining gets them what they want and .world defederates from .ml, they'll pick another instance and start whining about that.
I'm sure the moment they defend from .ml after years of complaining about .ml after not doing the thing that would make them happy, dbzer0 will be the next on their chopping block of "Tankie Triad" or whatever the liberal echo chamber says.
conservatives don't like being reminded that people to their left exist.
until they lose an election and need someone other than themselves to blame.
Yup, and check !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works or my periodically updated recap post for why everyone!
Repost, no.
They should grow organically on nicer instances.
I try to unsubscribe ML communities when I find a decent alternative anywhere else.
I don't mind when people crosspost.
Sure, why not. And they can do the same over to their side. And stealing certian content from Reddit would also be good.
I assume crossposts are handled properly by Lemmy's feeds? I don't think I've noticed duplicates much. My answer would change if not, because there's going to be no way to predict people's replication preferences.
I have, before, posted one item that I thought was interesting on !technology@beehaw.org to !technology@lemmy.world, as I know that beehaw.org has defederated from lemmy.world and the item was interesting and otherwise lemmy.world users wouldn't have seen it.
I don't think that I'd try to mirror the complete content of a community, though. I mean, different communities may have different interests.
yeah for sure
the main reason i havent defederated is bc of how much stuff is from there
