Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online

We say to 'nuke it'.
So it'll be like oh I got to nuke this pizza for a minute.
i think this is the only correct response. everyone else is operating outside SOP
And we do it with the nukrawave.
I only heard that term when I moved to the Midwest. One of many odd things they say.
It was common when I grew up on the east coast.
'Nuke it' or 'microwave it'
Heat it up in the microwave.
We say "giv den en tur i mikrobølgen" meaning "give it a ride in the microwave"
Hei nabo! We say "jeg skal mikke den" meaning "I'm gonna mic it"
Either "heat it up in the microwave" or "throw it into the microwave."
Why are questions from the other commhnity always copy pasted here?
Part of ongoing boycotting/protest efforts to reduce the influence of .ml comms because of the behavior of the .ml instance admins to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate.
Ah. That post is yours too. Thats a lot of effort! Good job on that. Good bit of research there.
I'll check my history on the instance. Bc I'm pretty sure I've skipped lemmy.world communities to go to lemmy.ml
Having said that. You good with the replacement being lemmy.world? I've never been a fan.
Thanks! I generally try to avoid .world comms myself when cross-posting, not because I think they're being toxic like .ml, but just for general health and decentralization of the Lemmy-verse
But with asklemmy, it's a bit of an odd spot, there was !ask@lemm.ee I was starting to crosspost to but ya know, .ee shutdown, so they've moved over to !ask@piefed.social but uptake has been very slow IMO even compared to when I was starting to crosspost to the .ee version, maybe it's a federation issue?
So now I'm trying to go for a "little bit here and a little bit there" approach lol
For .ml's shittyasklemmy though !shittyasklemmy@lemmy.uhhoh.com is my go-to
Sad to see lemm.ee go, biggest loss since lemmy.film. that one was mysterious and disappointing. This is only disappointing.
I wonder if someone figured out what happened to .film
Yeah piefed is odd. Idk what it is but federation there has always been weird.
I disliked how everything was on world. If world closes down Lemmy is fucked. But the last straw for me was the anti piracy stance they took. With that it was goodbye. I still post a lot on some of those communities but simply for the sake of Lemmy users as a whole.
I just hope whoever owns the .ee domain keeps it renewed or passes it to someone else. .film didn't and because it had traffic on it those domain name vultures have it now and want a ridiculous amount of money for it
Didn't the .world admins reverse course on the piracy thing? I could have sworn I read a thread where they talked about not blocking it anymore
Yes the lemm.ee admins seem to be ending it cleanly. I expect they will be responsible with this.
.world went back and forth and back and forth and eventually blocked it (unless smth changed in my inactive months)
'mike it' or 'nuke it'.
Outside of the more usual “microing” (not in English though, sounds a bit wonky in English but less so in our language), we do use “nuking” a lot.
I'm in the zap it gang, but I think I've used nuke it occasionally too.
Put it in the cooking box.
Blast it.
