Trump said people participating in protests in Los Angeles will not be allowed to wear masks and praised the National Guard for “a job well done” after deploying them to the city to settle the protests.

“These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED,” he wrote on Truth Social early Sunday morning. “Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???”

Silly rabbit, masks are for stormin the Capitol!

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 51 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Oh no, and definitely don't wear all black. You'll confuse little piggy brains.

[–] Caesium@lemmy.world 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

pigs deserve so much more than to be associated with cops

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 21 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Pigs are as intelligent as dogs. Calling police pigs is an insult to pigs.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

And they make bacon. Cops just make dead minorities.

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

well im not sure the pigs are the ones making the bacon

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Pigs eat garbage and make bacon. They don't cure it, but they do the heavy lifting.

Jim Gaffigan covered it in one of his earlier standup specials. If you haven't watched his material, I recommend. It's clean, good fun comedy.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 14 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Who do I email to to get paid to be a troublemaker? I’ve got experience.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 274 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

…yet it’s perfectly fine when the federal agents wear masks and/or fail to identify themselves. Fucking hypocrites.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 77 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

reminder: if they do not identify THEY ARE KIDNAPPING YOU. Respond as you would during a real kidnapping. BECAUSE YOU ARE IN ONE.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 30 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (6 children)

If you attack them the law is on their side even if they don't identify themselves:

[18 U.S. Code] Section 111 makes it a crime to “forcibly assault, resist, oppose, impede, intimidate, or interfere with” federal officials engaged in their duties. But here’s the problem: You don’t even need to know they’re federal officials. You can be convicted for shoving someone you think is just someone yelling in your face, even just placing them in “reasonable fear of harm” without physical contact—if they turn out to be a plainclothes agent. That’s not hypothetical. That’s precedent, courtesy of the Supreme Court over 50 years ago.

Which means this: An undercover agent embedded in a protest, a public meeting, even a constituent town hall could claim to have been “impeded,” and the federal government can treat that moment as a federal crime. Under the current administration’s appetite for authoritarianism, that’s not a loophole, it’s a feature.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago

If enough of the fascist fucks get their heads blown off trying to kidnap people, they'll start identifying themselves.

Arm up if you haven't already.

[–] BendingHawk@lemmy.world 13 points 9 hours ago

Correct, that is why you should respond as if they are kidnapping you, with deadly force.

[–] Pilferjinx@lemmy.world 9 points 8 hours ago

Still better than being disappeared.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 21 points 10 hours ago

yep. and yet people still claim we are not a fascist state.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

Dead agents can't testify, just saying.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Except now you can question the legality of official duties. Violating constitutional rights cannot be official duties. I'm not saying you are gonna win this one but a handful of ICE officers getting a blanket party trying to violate due process is a quagmire at best.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 98 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Any time ice shows up, declare a protest and they have to unmask. Checkmate.

[–] ReanuKeeves@lemm.ee 51 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I never expected him to be so authoritarian and incendiary. Who could have possibly seen this kind of dictatorship coming???

HEAR YE HEAR YE FOR THE KING HATH TROOTED, LET IT BE SO

[–] Shootingstarrz17@lemmy.world 27 points 11 hours ago

Watch me, bitch. How about you tell that to the gestapo as well?

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

Of course trumps thinks they are being paid to do this. After all that asshole has to pay people to do things like this. Even if its nothing but bigoted atta bois.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 134 points 15 hours ago (5 children)

I'm pretty sure that's not within his power to dictate people can't wear masks.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 114 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (3 children)

To be fair, people have been saying "I’m pretty sure that’s not within his power to dictate" for the past six months or so, and it hasn't done a whole hell of a lot of good. Granted, this will be more difficult to enforce, but I can see a whole lot of people being arrested on a whole lot of trumped-up charges for wearing masks at a protest.

As illegal as his order may be, it'll still end up being you that is arrested. You that is put in jail. You that is denied your civil rights. You that will have to face an uphill battle in a MAGA-rigged court system with virtually no resources against the US government. Trump will face no repercussions. He is immune from prosecution. He will not even know your name, much less be inconvenienced by your arrest. He can pardon any cronies who are charged for violating your civil rights. Trump knows this, and he is acting accordingly. He knows that the fact that this battle is so lopsided in his favor is itself enough of a deterrent to make many rank-and-file people back down.

He knows the order is illegal. But he also knows that the overwhelming majority of people aren't in a position to do anything about it.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

As the old saying goes, "you can beat the rap but you can't beat the ride." You'll be arrested and sent through the court system for the charges to be eventually dropped because it's not actually a law that you can't wear a mask.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 23 points 14 hours ago

That's assuming it gets that far. If your skin is a little too brown for their liking, you could find yourself on an involuntary tropical vacation at one of Trump's increasing number of third world hellholes. Good luck getting a hold of anyone that speaks English, much less get in touch with your family or getting the charges dropped.

[–] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Don't worry, Chuck Schumer will lower his glasses and give him a very stern look.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

No, Susan Collins will do that.

Chuck Schumer will protest Trump's order until it's time to vote in favor of legislation criminalizing mask use. Then he'll support it at the last second while the rest of the Dems in the senate act shocked and surprised.

Ask ICE this question...

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

And Nazis. They wear masks to demonstrations, too

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 12 points 13 hours ago

Don’t want their friends and family to know what cowardly weaklings they are.

[–] LogicalFallacy@lemm.ee 19 points 12 hours ago
[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 53 points 15 hours ago

paid troublemakers

Yes, Donnie, let's talk about them. How much are you paying the troublemakers to go in and turn the protests violent?

[–] don@lemm.ee 45 points 15 hours ago

Get fucked. If the police and other agents are masked, the protesters stay masked. Eat the shit directly from my asshole, donnie.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 25 points 14 hours ago

Well that's not really how civil disobedience works now is it.

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 25 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It’s literally 10:30 AM in LA. National guard hasn’t done anything.

If people are getting paid for protesting, why the heck am I doing it for free!?!?!?

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 15 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

IF they want to Wear Masks they MUST be Kidnapping CHILDREN! OTHERWISE you BETTER not Hide Your Identity or FILTER the Poisonous Gas the US Government is USING on YOU!

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 9 hours ago

Watching some of the footage and live feeds, I saw very few gas masks being worn by the pigs and it made me wonder why people were throwing bottles and rocks and not the tear gas cans back at them. Especially around the depot or whatever and the pigs were standing in the door ways. Fill that shit up with their own gas and smoke.
